Was Howard Dean ever a Rebublican?
Hey, I was -- for a few years in the early 1960's. I don't mean any bad by it -- just curious. Anybody know?

1. great - another thread - with a slight twist
that fits with a bunch of other threads on this topic.

I appreciate your point - but could you make it on one of the existing threads?

Or is no discussion besides Clark or Dean allowed in GD anymore? Because the net effect of starting a thread that fits with several existing threads and that will result in a mirror Dean thread is pushing ALL substantive ISSUE topics off of the front page. Within minutes.

Sorry but this is frustrating.

*this is todays pat response to the proliferation of identical threads that has shut down all other conversations among people, on issues, that are about beating BUSH, fighting back against BUsh policies, but devoid of clark or dean.* If ya'll can spam the forum - then I can spam your threads.

2. I don't think so. I did hear his father was a republican.
He went democratic in college. I think you still had to be 21 to vote then.......so that places him as always a democrat.

3. Yes, Dean Was a Republican... Sort Of
Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 04:09 PM by tsipple
Dean says he converted to the Democratic Party while in college (i.e. upon reaching maturity). :-) His father was a staunch Republican and raised little Dean that way.

Dean has been a Democrat -- and a proud, card carrying one at that -- his entire adult life and for his entire political career.

Glad you asked!

(On edit: He related how he became a Democrat to George Stephanopolous on a recent "This Week" program on ABC, among other places. You can order a transcript here if you like.)

5. "Little Dean" LOL!
My parents were all repub, too! But there are a lot of things my parents did that I didn't follow!

My Dad was a bigot..very distressing...It's really nice when kids are brought up in one environment and can still make intelligent choices for themselves!

4. His father was a Rockefeller Republican
Which is essentially a moderate Democrat who balances the budget. Back when he was pretty young he witnessed the right wing tearing apart the Rockefeller Republicans at some kind of event and lost respect and trust for Republicans from then on. He eventually discovered he felt the same way about the radical left he did about the radical right. He's right in the middle with a few leanings just barely to either side(left and right).

6. There are plenty of threads talking about Dean. Could you just post to
one of those and not start another one?

7. Since 1/3 of the responses on this thread are
"why not post to another thread" and the others welcome the question, why don't you stop wasting bandwidth with "post to another thread" responses. Or, better yet, start a "post to another thread" thread and stick to it, so the rest of us can skip it.

The answer to the question, by the way, is that if I posted to another thread I wouldn't be able to find it later to read the answers. You must have noticed how fast thread go into limbo on this board.
