There is less and less point to even checking in here, almost all of it is bashing, I long for fun discussion about issues.

12. This place is starting to sound like the "My dad can whip your dad"
silliness that you hear from little kids. And everyone is sooooo damn sure that they have the goods on everyone else's candidate. And the vitriolic attacks are an embarrassment. No one pays any attention to what a person has to say if all they are hearing is static.

We have over a year to the next election, and we won't even had a candidate for some time yet. I am paying close attention to what is being said by the candidates, not what anyone here is saying. That's pointless. This has just become one loud personal screech between the Clark/Dean supporters, with no one making any headway. And it seems that the popular sentiment has become "if your guy wins the primary, I'm still not going to vote for him". So what is the point? This used to be a place of sincere and honest discussion meant to benefit this country, which basically comes down to getting the current bunch of thugs out of office. Now, from what I understand today, Clark is a Rove/DLC/Clinton plant and Dean is nothing but a elitist liar. Well, if this is the future of the democratic party, we're screwed.

No one has the right to call anyone names or denigrate them for their opinions. If my son acted like so much of what I've seen today, he'd be in his room for life.

5. I'm Just Adding Those Flame Bait Posters To My Iggy File...
... temporarily.

IMO they are flame bait and nothing else... but they are disguised and thinly veiled to fly just under the radar.

They are ruining GD and cluttering up the possibility for genuine discussions.

POOF! And they disappear. No second chances. They're history.

I'm POSITIVE that it makes NOT ONE BIT OF DIFFERENCE to them... why should they care if they made it to my iggy file? They don't care and that's fine.

The difference is that from MY perspective, GD becomes a nicer place to visit.

7. yes....
they suck.

What sucks almost as much is all the threads created to discuss the issue of bashing.

This is ridiculous. GD looks like this:

Bash Clark Thread
Poll: Should we bash Clark
Bash Dean Thread
Bitch-thread about bashing Dean
Poll: Should we have more polls about bitching about bashing threads
Bash Clark Thread
Bash Clark Thread
Bitch-thread about bashing Clark thread
Real topic (1 reply)
Bash Dean Thread
Poll: Should we bash Clark or Dean?
Bitch-thread about polls

would make me exceptionally sad to lose my home of two years by being displaced by the gazillion identical - but each one so earthshattering important threads.

9. I am really getting tired...
Of seeing this place become an echo chamber for bashes that have their genesis on Frothing Right Wing websites. I have followed links and found that some of them lead to websites that we would have laughed and pointed at, just a few weeks ago.

I see that and I KNOW that one of two things have happened: either some people, previously thought intelligent, aren't, or we have some pretty serious moles in the lawn.

This is not roveundergound.com, nor freeunderground.com. But then, for some people, "scoring points" supercedes ethics or basic cognitive skills.

18. Certainly
Hostility should be directed against the criminals of the '00 Coup.

Persons who support a candidate should support that candidate, not attempt to savage other candidates.

We must all be willing to unite behind whoever emerges as the nominee: anything else will only result in four more years of the worst reactionary mis-rule.

22. I can't stand it
I'm a Dean supporter, but I don't really understand the need to tear down the other candidates. I have to get used to the idea that I may have to vote for one of them if my guy doesn't get the nomination, and reading these stupid threads about what big meanies the others are doesn't help AT ALL.

There will never be a candidate who I will agree with 100%, and anyone who thinks there will ever be one is living in fantasy land.

This is all about BEATING BUSH, and everyone needs to focus on that, not on the petty differences between candidates.

Besides, has anyone ever been won over to another candidate through something they read in a bashing thread? I sure haven't. The more I see of John Edwards, for example, the more I like what he has to say. When I read positive things about him that helps, but when I see someone who supports one candidate tearing down someone else, it kind of turns me off. The people who write the bashing threads would do well to know that their activities only turn me off to their candidates. If their candidates are really any good, they'll win me over on their own merits. If all they have to offer is bashing, then it makes it very difficult for me to give their candidates fair consideration. I am LESS LIKELY to support a candidate if his or her supporters act like a bunch of assholes. I will certainly vote for them if they get the nomination, but the ugliness I'll associate with their supporters will make me less enthusiastic about it, certainly to the point where I would have a much harder time donating money, volunteering, registering people to vote, or doing any of the other things besides voting that we all need to do to win this thing.

24. Yes. Not just dumb, but destructive. We need to pull together...
The only way do defeat a common enemy is to unite against him.

We have our differences, and that is terrific and as American as apple pie, but beating up on each other will accomplish nothing, and is corrosive, as it strains relationships -- something that we can ill afford.

25. Me!
I am completely sick of this stuff! I am proposing the following:

(To) save everybody here a lot of time and effort, considering the epidemic of bad disposition that's been going on.

Dear Sir (Madam),

You are, without any doubt, a rouge, a rascal, a villian, a thief, a scoundrel, and a mean dirty stinking, sniveling, sneaking, pimping, pocket-picking thrice double-dammed no good son (daughter) of a b*t*h

The above is from a scene in the DVD version of "1776", while the colonies were debating the concept of independence.

There are way too many "attack" threads and too many "Can't we just get along" threads. It's September 2003, and we have 14 months to throw * out of Al's house.

I don't mind threads that involve a candidate's position, I'm more upset about the commentary that follows. The candidates, and their supporters are PEOPLE. That is my wish - that when people post about their candidate, that they remember this. There are thread replies that would make me wonder how they can kiss their family with that mouth (or touch them with their hands

I also hope / pray, that whenn the Democratic candidate is chosen, that we unite behind them.

Ok, I'm getting off my usually ignored soapbox.

29. Maybe DU needs a "Flame Pit" to banish all the bashing to...
Lord knows there's enough threads to fill such a forum up. Is there an admin in the house reading this? If so, have you ever considered a forum specifically for those who only want to fight and bash? Maybe on a temporary basis just to try it out to see if it solves the problem?
