Self-confirmation for voting: it would work like this...
Every voter is assigned a unique, secret number.

When you vote, you get a printout documenting how you voted. (Aside - it's a given that this verification would have to be difficult/impossible to forge.) And it's kind a nice momento to keep for posterity.

Every vote is published on-line - with no names, of course, only the voter's number or code.

Then each voter could confirm his or her vote on-line.

A mandatory post-election audit would link each voter code on the published result to the real voter (to be certified by an independent accounting firm).

1. Knowing our overlords...
They would have Arthur Anderson doing the election accounting. But seriously, I would like to see this happen, but I am a cynic. To find out how our election is rigged you need to look no further:

Bob Urosevich
American Information Systems
Election Systems & Software, Inc. (ES&S)
I-Mark
Global Election Systems, Inc.
Diebold, Inc.

Prominent Republican control over 80% of the vote
