Has anyone asked the fundies what the 'Judeo-Christian' values are?
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 08:52 PM by Heaven and Earth
Their slogan as we all know is "This country was founded on Judeo-Christian values". We all know that is untrue. I am curious, though, what they think those values are, if they could define them?

Probably, it is just a slogan, and therefore the words mean nothing, but I am bored and curious.

So, has anyone asked?

2. I sure wish they'd knock off the "Judeo" part.
There are lots of Christians I'm proud to call my friends and fellow party members, but I sure don't like being lumped in with Dobson; especially it's only the real fundies who use that phrase.

4. I agree.
I think that many people who really do try their best to live according to Christian values are not the kind you'd find telling everybody what 'moral Christians' they are.

They're just doing it.

8. Yeah, I know a guy like that.
He claims to be a Republican. I'd say I'm working on him but there's little work to be done. Example...

He's mad about the gay marriage ammendments.
He isn't bent out of shape about illegal immigration.
He favors social programs...

Him: "When things are good, everybody thinks they can make it on their own. But when things are bad, everybody is like 'what is the government going to do for *me*."

Me: "Well, that's why you have to keep the social programs strong during the good times, so they're there when things go south."

Him: "Yep"

So, this dude is super religious in a quiet way. Goes to church a lot, but doesn't talk about it. He's Protestant, I'm Jewish, but we both have a lot of respect for each other. We have a similar friend who is a Catholic. These are the Christians I'm proud to say I have a lot of common with religiously and politically.

Of course, we also have a lot of Dobson follower friends (or else we'd be all alone in "The Springs"), but they're cool as long as religion and politics don't come up.

3. Yeah I asked one something along those lines on another board.
He says the "Christian values" this country was founded on are "Bush's values!!!!!"

A full-grown adult answered me with that, five exclamation points and all.

5. It's what "Christian values" becomes when there's a jew in the room.
Didn't you know?

9. which is why the Founding Fathers were all Deists, not Christians
And explicitly denied being Christians on several occasions (most notably when negotiating with Tripoli).
