Dobson Compares Stem Cell Research to Nazis

On the August 3 Focus on the Family show James Dobson compared stem cell research to the human experimentation under the Nazi’s. Media Matters for America has this quote, as well as an audio clip on their web site:

"DOBSON: You know, the thing that means so much to me here on this this issue is that people talk about the potential for good that can come from destroying these little embryos and how we might be able to solve the problem of juvenile diabetes. There’s no indication yet that they’re gonna do that, but people say that, or spinal cord injuries or such things. But I have to ask this question: In World War II, the Nazis experimented on human beings in horrible ways in the concentration camps, and I imagine, if you wanted to take the time to read about it, there would have been some discoveries there that benefited mankind. You know, if you take a utilitarian approach, that if something results in good, then it is good. But that’s obviously not true. We condemn what the Nazis did because there are some things that we always could do but we haven’t done, because science always has to be guided by ethics and by morality. And you remove ethics and morality, and you get what happened in Nazi Germany. That’s why to Senator Frist and the others who are saying, “Look what may be accomplished.” Yeah, but there’s another issue, there’s a higher order of ethics here."

Once again we see the double standard from the far right. The same people who claimed to be outraged by a valid comparison between torture and Nazi practices find a totally erroneous comparison between stem cell research and Nazi experimentation to be acceptable.

4. Hilter first "euthanized" the mentally ill and infirmed
Dobson and the rest of the American Taliban are saying to people with serious diseases that they should just die. Same as Hitler.

6. Those cells are NOT embryos. They are a collection
of fertilized cells. They do not become embryos until they are implanted in a womb. Without a womb they will NEVER be anything but a collection of a few cells.

10. That Is the Problem, Sir
With use of the comparison for anything short of an actual attempt at extermination by torturous means of an entire people. It is particularly glaring in this case, because of the idiocy of attempting to compare what is done to sentient creatures with something done to individual cells, but the disproportion is very great in most every attempt to invoke the thing for propaganda purposes, from any quarter.
