1. Yes, he really lost.
It's a frigging miracle he came as close as he did. Take off the tinfoil hat.

3. When it comes to election fraud, and the Republican party....
....all conspiracy theories - tinfoil hat or otherwise - are ON the table as far as I'm concerned. Remember November 2nd.....how surprised everyone was when Bush vaulted past Kerry...it made no sense. It makes no sense 9 months later either. Two days later, this makes no sense to me. They were neck and neck all night, then Jean throws on the afterburners and leaves Hackett in the dust. Hmmmmmm.

Big shout out to helderheid for at least asking the question!
:hi:

4. For the love of god people!!
I'm sure I will get flack for this, but yes he lost fair and square. Take it from someone who lives in Ohio that part of Ohio he was campaigning in is staunch republican territory. It never ever goes blue there. It was a miracle he got as many votes as he did.

5. In a month or so
Anybody who thinks Hackett lost fair and square will be derided as naive or a conservative plant. Just the evolution of the thing. Today people are asking "questions," having "suspicions." Tomorrow those suspicions will turn out to be undeniable fact, and, well, the conventional wisdom of DU will be that Hackett won and had the election stolen from him.

And it's never fun to go against conventional wisdom.

It's a bloody miracle Major Hackett got as close as he did.

Let's take a look:

The count paused 662 precincts, all of OH-2 except for about half of Clermont county.

Look at the differences from each candidate to determine how those last 91 precincts split. They split 60-40 for Schmidt. Clermont county (Jean Schmidt's home county) as a whole went 58-40 in her favor. There's nothing abnormal here.

6. He actually won by about 20 points but repukes set up the
paper ballots with invisible ink which allowed them to change the votes before they were counted. OUTRAGE!

7. Healthy skepticism is good
Until our Dem leaders develop some detailed guidelines and a clear and comprehensive policy statement with regard to election security, its best to view election results with skepticism and reserve judgement.

Our leaders need to be able to have quality guidelines and standards established that any federal or state election must meet with strong enforcement provisions against those who fail to meet those quality standards.

Until our party takes the lead on this issue, we'll just be guessing.

8. My comment from another thread
Is every election we lose going to be called stolen from now on?

I've been dealing with local elections since I was a little kid. My mom held a small office in our town and worked with the Mayor, who ran every term for 22 years. We were there every election night listening to the results come in and go up on the board. Results from districts would come in late and dramatically change the count. It happened all the time, and it wasn't fraud.

I think everyone is correct to be suspicious of elections these days. But I would offer also a word of caution: What happened here with Hackett is not unusual. Before the accusation of fraud is made as a declarative fact, some proof beyond conjecture and disappointment would be a good thing.

12. Couldn't we establish some objective criteria
for use in judging how elections are conducted? Shouldn't Dems have a list of standards that need to be met and, even if no proof of fraud is available, at least there would be some means of "scoring" elections?

17. Watch this video and mark where he
talks about rigging the elections to go 51-49%.... This makes you think alot about this.

I did not expect Hackett to win in this district, but I did not expect him to do as well as he did.

What was the races final numbers and is it close enough to call for a recount based on Ohio election law.

20. We will never know--
--as long as tabulation software is proprietary and the election process is closed to the public.
