Artist conception of Abu Gharib tortures [WARNING!!! EXPLICIT GRAPHICS!] |
|
This artist's name is Fernando Botero, someone just gave me the link to this site and I must say that the artist captured this very well. I must warn however that the paintings are rather graphic and that there is nudity involved. http://www.artistsnetwork.org/artists/fernandobotero.htmlDee

1. Gripping and repulsive... Thank you for posting this. |
|
Everyone needs to go and see these paintings - they are compelling. This is who we have become...this is who we are. I am ashamed of America...

2. How have these artists seen the photos and not the rest of us? |
|
I don't doubt these are accurate renditions, but I want to see the real deal.

It might be an artistic rendition based on testimony. BTW - I saw these a couple of weeks ago. EDIT - sorry these are not the same ones that I saw.
Botero is quite famous. You can see prints of his published(nott hese ones for obvious reasons) at many major art outlets.

4. Here was my response to the artist.... |
|
...on your paintings and sketches of the Abu Gharib tortures:
That pretty much sums it up for me. The pain, the emotions, the suffering, the fear and the aftermath for the victims of torture. As for the results and what the torturers gain from all this, I see that the artist has no visions of these, perhaps because there is nothing materially that is gained, only the sadistic satisfaction which the torturers get from these inhuman acts.

5. He did really portray the pain and suffering well |
|
as well as the sadism from the soldiers. I think I found a new favorite artist.

6. Botero used to paint happy pictures of large people dancing |
|
and playing musical instruments, wearing faint smiles.
Abu Gahrib has effected him deeply.
Thanks for the link.

7. Hillary Clinton featured his sculptures on the White House lawn. |
|
WONDERFUL artist--several of his sculptures were displayed on the White House grounds along Constitution Ave. around 1997 (which was when I "discovered" Botero).
Fascinating new work from him...
