Very Important -- Help Larisa publicize Sibel Edmonds story

Larisa Alexandrovna (lala_rawraw) asked me to round up some help at DU. She has put up a blog entry at The Huffington Post about the latest Sibel Edmonds revelations concerning Dennis Hastert:

She needs people to go read it and then add comments. With enough comments it will get to the front page of The Huffington Post, where it will have maximum visibility -- and maximum visibility at The Huffington Post is a big deal!

I know you guys can do it. I've already seen wailing here about how this story is going to be buried like all the others. Well, this is a way to make sure that doesn't happen.

So please, do what comes naturally to all you eager posters and kick this for the truth.

I was just going to link it but apparently Vanity Fair made them take it down! I'm lucky I had the window open on my computer for a few days now.

It's an amazing article and while the cover story may have Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (or as Conan calls it "Bragina"), this is the REAL story.

What she was put through by the FBI is absolutely astounding. Not only did they fire her but they even threatened her family in Turkey. The story about the other agent that noticed a woman was the daughter of a Pakistani military attache (and almost definetely an intelligence agent for the ISI) was also canned eventually.

After reading that I'm completely convinced ever single facet of this government is corrupt and they are hiding something that goes all the way to the top.

35. Here is what I said.

The way the Sibel Edmonds' story has been studiously ignored by the so-called "liberal" media is just one more glaring example that the free press in the USA is far from free.

It also serves to illustrate how the chest beating and trumpeting out loud one hears from the US politicians and media commentators about the USA's adherence to democratic principles, freedom of the press etc. is a lot of propaganda and hot air.

The corporately owned and controlled press is free all right. It is free to report on missing white girls, runaway brides, shark attacks and the sex lives of celebrities 24/7, but it seems it knows well enough exactly where the line is that cannot be crossed. This is why a whistleblower like Sibel Edmonds, acting from a profound concern for the safety and security of her fellow citizens, has to fight tooth and nail just to get some minimal notice and attention drawn to her cause.

Sibel Edmonds is one very brave lady. She has my admiration and respect.

Update, this morning the ACLU sent me a pre-release of a press release that is out now:

"NEW YORK -- The American Civil Liberties Union today urged the U.S. Supreme Court to review a lower court's dismissal of the case of Sibel Edmonds, a former FBI translator who was fired in retaliation for reporting security breaches and possible espionage within the Bureau. Lower courts dismissed the case when former Attorney General John Ashcroft invoked the rarely used "state secrets" privilege."



I just upped my ACLU contribution.
