1. yeh
it's very obvious for those who've been here for several months or longer, when (and with what group of posters) DU started to go downhill.

it's sad.

2. I thought it was also "Dean Territory" and we just ought to "shut up"
I think both sides are pretty good at attacking.

10. I've said before that DU does NOT stand for Dean Underground,

despite the efforts of some Deanies to make it do so with way too many Dean threads.

The Clarkies have been annoying the Deanies this week by filling GD with way too many Clark threads.

Now the Deanies and the Clarkies are spamming us with Clark vs. Dean threads, annoying everyone.

It's not pretty and it does NOT help Dean or Clark gain support.

21. I am not a "Deanie" but I'd rather open a vein than vote for a general....
I agree with you in so far as the Dean vs Clark clash of the titans crap is becoming a real drag. However, irrespective of Dean's merits or faults, I think that Wesley will destroy the democratic party. He's a poison pill-- we elect him, we get...-- him.

I feel like Elvis Costello ....

"Oh I used to be disgusted, And now I try to be amused."

But this afternoon it was really, very difficult to be amused.

34. Could we please put just a little more effort into our posts,
Mr. Copy-and-Paste?

An original thought would be nice. Posting the same link to the same article 500 times and in thread after thread after thread is not going to persuade people.

7. I don't think so.
I'm saddened by the bashing of Clark, Dean, and any other candidate. You all were gung ho when your candidate was top dog. Well, get over it. This site attracted me from the first time I heard about it on C-Span and I looked. It's not about one candidate. It's about truth, caring about people less fortunate than you, and exposing the horrible truths and lies of the Bush Administration.

You know, just today my husband realized what a service you provide. Until now, he thought I was hooked on a fly-by-night smear club for Democrats. The CIA story about Bob Novak finally convinced him you were real. He's a staunch Democrat, but he really had doubts about the truth being told here.

Off my soap box, dinner is ready. Never forget that some die-hard Democrats get lost because of every day worries created by Bush. Lay-offs, the ability to get help if you are layed off, schooling for your kids because it's being squeezed by Bush, etc., etc.

By for now. But don't ever think just because people have everyday crisis to deal with, that they don't realize how who gets elected or selected affects that.

28. Thanks Melinda
I know most here are close to me in thought. Just not seeing that lately. Too many "my way or the highway" people. Remind anyone of someone? Speak softly and carry a big stick. "Dean" people?, you might remember that. It's not how much or how loud you scream, but that what you scream is true. So for Clark, who I do like as well as Dean. Just don't get so narrow minded that you lose the battle because you couldn't see the bigger picture.

And last, I'm not voting for the candidate I hear the most about, but the candidate I hear the best about.

Unless the other candidate is Bush!!!

8. DU yes. Career military types no.
Tune in, turn on, drop out. It's not as if we don't have a choice. Those that aren't satified with a political coup and insist on a military one can have their own thread as well as opinion. I've weighed in on this issue before but will do so no more. Given a choice between a converted(?) Dem. like Clark and one of my Dad's Republicans like McCain I will do little soul searching in casting my vote. I've done the last of my Clark bashing.......Clark who? Wasn't he an actor that pretended to be Superman. Sorta a wimpy fella that seemed less than what he was. A real wolf in sheeps clothing, that one.

Sorry, one last dig but that's it. I'm lurking on the "c" thing from now on. Lurking and giggling.........though I might do some crying as well.

KoKo is right. There are real issues out there now that outway that hump in the ground heading towards the house. This election is too far away to spend this much attention while thieves ransack our home.

It's amazing that Dean supporters feel so put out.

Months ago Kerry supporters were saying the *exact same* things about Dean supporters ruling the board.

13. Way to elevate the discourse
"Gee, I think I'll ignore the fact that it's a good point independent of what happened in the past with SOME Dean supporters, I'll just chime in with another one of my trademark Dean slams."

Honestly, I don't even know why I bother reading this forum anymore. There's maybe a handful of posters who aren't habitual bashers/apologists for any given candidate.

"Dean supporters ruling the board". Jesus, give me a break. The only people who rule the board now are IDIOTS, and that group comprises supporters of more than just Clark and Dean.

17. DU is DEM territory, or other leftist parties.
There's room here for all opinions from the left. I personally support Clark right now, but I may change my mind. I like ALL the Dem candidates, and whoever gets the nomination will get my vote in Nowember 2004.

20. I've been lurking and reading for some time now
at least a couple of times a week. I don't understand some of you. You've been debating candidates for almost a year here. There's been bashing of every Democratic candidate, especially Kerry and Lieberman.

If the interest of the day is predominately focused on the upcoming elections why are some getting bent out of shape about it? When I come here to read, it is basically to gather as much information as possible about each candidate. I don't think pointing out the negative aspects of any candidate is "bashing" and I don't think those who are posting such information should be stifled.

For every "stop bashing our candidates" thread there's a so called bashing thread to accomodate it. Those who are posting the information aren't the one's wasting bandwidth unless they're spamming the board with it. It's those who are complaining and slamming posters for their political views and beliefs that is wasteful.

There are so many forums at DU for discussing ISSUES that I fail to see the urgency in having to have it all discussed in a General Forum. It seems to be the only forum where people can discuss the various candidates although some would want the administrators to make a special forum just for discussing Candidates. It might relieve some here from having to take interest in the Candidate threads.

What is the general forum for?

That gives me hope.......but, from the perspective of an "Old Poster on DU..i.e...one who has been here.....the dialog has degenerated....but if you don't have a problem with it as a "new DU'er" then it's okay!

Makes me feel better....you could "jump in" and not have a problem with all that's going on! :-)'s

25. There are so many bulletin boards out there
And almost all of the political boards are obsessed with the Candidates. If you want to see degenerates in action I can provide you with some links. You'll come back to appreciate DU after reading some of them. At least here I CAN get some valuable information. When the novelty with Clark wears off, it will calm down some. But the entire country is wondering who he is and what he stands for. It's only natural for us to be discussing him, both positive and negative.

I like him. I think he is intelligent and has some valuable qualities, but I don't trust him. So, the Clark bashing threads that provide information about him are what I seek out. Intelligent people are allowed to read it and discern for themselves whether or not it's bunk, and will respond accordingly. That's the spirit of debate. I feel the same way about Sharpton and a few others also. In '04 I will be making a very informed decision, and the DU'ers helped me do that, both positive and negative.
