hypothetical question: could this happen?
If Sibel Edmonds story pans out as we all hope and pray it will, could there ever actually be a scene wherein police/ federal marshalls show up at the doors of the WH and frogmarch the gang of criminals out of there? I mean, wouldn't the SS be protecting bushCo. at all cost? What I am trying to get at is, when all is said and done, where does the loyalty lie? Would they defer to the "grandeur of the office" or whatever?

1. This story is going nowhere,
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 02:33 PM by Goldmund
and I'll tell you why: because a political earthquake of these proportions would obliterate the Americans' trust in the very insitutions of government, and therefore the government's power and authority, for generations. It would reverberate far beyond partisan politics.

Neither party wants that to happen and neither party will allow that to happen. Unfortunatelly, of course.

Why do you think we still don't know who really killed JFK?

3. total agreement
We're not going to get anything but a coverup, if the neocons' fascist plot is even thwarted at all.

5. I agree with you and Goldmund.
This stuff is explossive. Unfortunately the majority of citizens don't understand the Constitutional issues well enough to fight the maneuvering the Executive is prepared to do. In thinking about the historical precedents I think it is fair to say that it has always been so. A civil war in a country with thousands of nuclear weapons is a truly frightening thing and gives all of us a vested interest in putting things right carefully.

Unfortunately putting things right at this point seem to involve both parties; the GOP moreso to be sure but the democratic process in both parties has not seemed to work well for a long time. Party platforms hammered out in open conventions and candidates for office who are the best representative of each party seem distant possibilities - very distant.

11. On the contrary. It would demonstrate very clearly that NOBODY

is about the law.

WE NEED to have this play out - which ever way it falls.

We were fed the bullshit that it would be bad for the country if raygun were prosecuted and tried for Iran Contra - well they weren't and look where it's got us today.

We are a strong country. We can take it.

We NEED to see these criminals frog-marched into prison - even if it leads to such a confrontation like you described. ESPECIALLY if it leads to the confrontation you described.

It would be very healing and healthy.

Don't fall for the repuke bullshit.

And that's what it is.

Interesting that we are very near to aproaching that scenerio, that the repukes and their moles and apologists here on DU show up to wail how "we can't put the country through this" crap.

Interesting how they didn't seem all to concerned about "putting the country thru this" when a Democrat was in office - along with all the "won't blame them if they shoot him when they visit my state" from certain senators, and all the other crap.

Very interesting indeed.

12. You misunderstand
I don't think it would be bad for the country. To the contrary -- it would be a cleansing like no other.

But it would be bad for the establishment of both parties. Hence, they won't allow it.

As long as we're running around like mice in a cage and only protesting against one party to the benefit of the other, instead of making systemic changes, that's how it'll be.

2. it could happen, but it would be extralegal
There's pretty serious stuff going on over there, and I wouldn't be surprised if the only way out turned out to be something like that.

4. Oh but what a dream scene
Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Hastert and Delay all arrested and thrown in jail the same day.
Wonder if Brit Hume would see this as a "buy" day?

6. when/if that happens
and there's a showdown between officers of the court doing their duty and the SS protecting the "above the law" club then we'll know the revolution has begun and we all need to deputise ourselves and make a citizens arrest.

10. An earlier thread likened Karl Rove to the Penguin...
This recent film seems to "fit" what might be happening soon...
