1. Notice
How shows, back then, were not as chopped up and fakey commercial bullshit.

We are moving towards a fascist theocracy.
Zappa was a profit.

30. More of a prophet, really.
But I'd never say that to his face.

I worked with a guy who interviewed Zappa in Chicago, as I recall he was appearing at Park West.

Zappa conducted the interview while sitting on the toilet.

9. I think it's awesome
that the link keeps coming up every so often. New people show up every day and everyone should watch that clip at least once.

Zappa's articulation and sense of humor next to that moran is great.

Novak wasn't on it but he was debating some toadie from the PMRC who claimed that rock and roll lyrics were responsible for the rise of AIDS in the 80's...yeah thats right AIDS!

11. just watched the clip now
that's about the most entertaining 20 minutes of television I've watched in years and probably the most entertaining 20 minutes of television I'll see until the opening 20 minutes of Karl Rove's criminal trial

what struck me was that both Lofton and Novak appeared to be reading from notes they brought in and Zappa had nothing and was still far better informed than they were ... they looked so pathetic that I almost felt sorry for them at times ... almost

19. Yep
When you have your own mind and don't need talking points you don't need notes. I wonder if they had talking points back then.

21. The same
Judging by the pic.

But boy, his arguments against the Iraq war are no less wacked than his comments on Crossfire twenty years ago:

But, can a Bible-believing Christian who also believes in our Constitution approve of our war against Iraq? I think not. This war is un-Biblical because it is not truly a war of self-defense. It also seeks to spread “democracy,” which is un-Biblical. It is un-Biblical in that it allies us with unbelieving, non-Christian nations. And it is un-Constitutional because President Bush did not seek a declaration of war, nor did Congress give him one, as the Constitution requires.

33. Wow, I commend you for actually reading it - I couldn't summon the
patience and just scrolled down to see his resume to see if it might be him. The only thing that peaked my interest was the fact that he couldn't stomach the Republicans anymore.

As for the Crossfire episode, I just can't get over his obsession with songs "advocating incest." Issues, anyone?

25. I am hunting for good pics of Novakula.
Yahoo! and Google have erased a lot of the good ones, and the ones that remain are too small to work with. I did find some yesterday, so I plan on doing another Novak Lizard ASAP.

Btw, BartCop.com used this pic in this weekend's edition: :D

I think that it's entirely possible that Zappa himself would enjoy Swamp Rat's works.

32. I can't believe how prescient Zappa
was when he said that the greatest threat to America was Reagan leading up toward a fascist theocracy. I thought everyone else's head was going to explode when he said that. God, Zappa was awesome.
