Would your library like books? |
|
It saddens me when I read that some DUers would like to read certain books but can't afford to get them, but I was afraid that if I offered to send someone my copies (since I have little space to keep books) there might be concerns about revealing identities over the internet. So I came up with this idea.
If you would like the books, please check with your local library and ensure that they will accept donated books and make them available. Then post the address of the library (with a name of a person you spoke with, preferably), and I would be happy to mail them. That way others can enjoy them too.
I have
Al Franken's Lying Liars... and Why Not Me? Michael Moore's Downsize This! Nader's recent book (can't remember title) Krugman's The Great Unravelling
Any takers?

3. Your timing is really interesting. Just two hours ago I called our |
|
local librarian at home and asked her if she would come to one of our local Democrats Club meetings and talk to us about two things:
1. The USA PATRIOT act and what they're being told about how it is affecting/will affect them (they just had a regional meeting two weeks ago).
2. Our club sponsoring/donating books to the library to make sure that our "flavor" of books are available for the public to read. It seems like they have plenty of the other "flavor" available. We have quite a collection of books in our individual collections but would like to find ways to make them publicly available.
We didn't talk about the details or even if it was possible for the library to accept them, just asked if she's come talk to us. She's very interested in doing that and so we're working on a time. Probably early November.
I know her slightly, she's a close friend of a close friend of mine, and I live in a relatively small (but very R-W Republican) community. Otherwise I might not have had the nerve.
Anyway, a group of us have started this Democrats Club where we have an opportunity to talk more about issues, our "flavor" of books, maybe activism topics, etc. Most of us are regular Party members and attendees but the business meetings didn't give us a chance to explore additional topics.
