School busses from Grapevine-Colleyville ISD formed a perimeter around the site where President George W. Bush was scheduled to land. More policemen than civilians could be seen on the blocked roads. Signs with protest notes were as absent as cheering crowds.

Several blocked highways as well as the blocked airspace left the whole Rhein-Main area (Mainz, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt) in chaos and brought the regional economy to a one-day halt. Tight security related regulations in Mainz as well as the massive police force did the rest to keep public expectations mellow. A friend of mine who had to stay several hours longer at work because he basically couldn't get home due to the roadblocks expressed a common thought: "Why is it that the president needs an army to protect him when he believes that he's doing the right thing in the right way?" I still can remember that president Clinton went to a Berlin bar with chancellor Schroeder and joined in a jam session. Even after 9-11 I find it hard to justify the big difference in security measures.
