8. They agreed not to block the road
I would guess you'd have to have a permit to block the road, and she didn't get one. Iconoclast has the details:

31. It's not a major road or anything. No traffic.
But I guess they were looking for an excuse to stop them along the way. The drainage ditches here are common. They're usually filled with fire ants and all kinds of other charming stuff, too. If there's any shade in those particular ditches, the snakes will be there. It poured rain recently, too, so I imagine it's nice and mucky in places. Charming.

7. I fear she will be harassed out of town by the locals
The local people there elevate Bush to a God-like status. It's like a cult of personality kind of thing, like being in North Korea or something. They don't take kindly to criticism of Him. I have had friends who used to live in rural Texas, and what they all tell me is the same: you do not criticize Bush. It's just not allowed in those parts.

This should be a concern if all those other protestors should leave town, leaving Sheehan alone.

10. Cindy is not alone. She is surrounded by Vets for Peace and a rather
large contingent of peace minded folk.

She is in good hands with Johhny Wolf and Hadi Jawad, founders of the Crawford Peace House.

Don't worry.

as we were leaving the Peace House, we had a train of cars behind the bus, and a few locals got caught in it, and boy were they driving like fools to get around us, or past us! Perturbed to say the least. I just laughed. hehehe.

Anti-war protesters march toward Bush ranch
06 Aug 2005 19:53:25 GMT

Source: Reuters

By Steve Holland

CRAWFORD, Texas, Aug 6 (Reuters) - About 70 anti-war protesters marched toward President George W. Bush's ranch on Saturday shouting "bring the troops home now" from Iraq, led by a California mother whose son was killed in combat in Baghdad.

The protest coincided with release of a Newsweek poll that said 61 percent of Americans disapproved of the way Bush was handling the situation in Iraq. The poll came after more than two dozen Americans were killed in the past week in Iraq.

"We mourn the loss of every life and Americans deeply appreciate those who have made the supreme sacrifice. The way to honor that sacrifice is to complete the mission so that their lives were not lost in vain," said White House spokesman Trent Duffy.

"The president has met with hundreds of families of those fallen. He grieves with all those who have lost loved ones," he said.

All of his meetings were pure photo-op moments! See Cindy Sheehan's. Also if you visit bradblog.com's radio archive look for his interview with this guy who was in the military and got a visit from Bush. Very weird indeed.

After some protesters left, a small group led by Sheehan vowed to stage a vigil on the side of the road until someone representing the White House came out to talk to her.

While no one from the White House immediately emerged, White House officials were aware of the protest.

Cindy speaks for so many of us who want to know "why?" It's a simple question. It's one word. It's not a complicated word. Hopefully it is one that even BushCo can understand.

I want answers too.

My hat is off to Cindy and the rest of the patriots.

27. If this were a Dem president like Clinton or Gore
Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 03:42 PM by Tactical Progressive
they'd have a newsvans everywhere and camera angles to make the crowd look as large as possible. It would be the talk of every cable news program, being a primary topic of discussion on each individual propagandist's show.

Of course it would be an 'important' news story, not some oddity like protesters of a phony, costly Republican war.

My bet here is you'll see some token coverage from each of the majors so they can tell themselves that they're fair and balanced. The crowds won't look big and they'll pick out the least appealing participants. Same as they always do now with any group opposing Republicans.
