19. Yes you should have
I was amazed that I was standing right in front of a stage that had on it Stevie Wonder, Pelosi, Conyers, Durbin, McKinney, Waters, Lee, Jesse, Lewis, and so many more luminaries.

I was very happy to be there but very disappointed that Herndon field, a pretty small stadium, was only half full. I was on the field and it was relatively empty when it should have been packed. I think it was poorly advertised. But still, it was a treat to be 20 feet away from those folks.

24. Ironically, whle people march to ban old poll taxes, a NEW POLL TAX
is being enacted in Georgia. To solve a literally nonexistent problem of people POSSIBLY impersonating voters at the polls, Georgia is about to institute strict "picture ID" (drivers license) requirements in addition to voter registration requirements on Election Day.

What a smart and subtle way to ensure suburban Republican (motorist) domination of the state indefinitely! Few people know this statistic: While only 4 percent of white Georgians lack drivers licenses, 18 percent of Georgia's disproportionately urban African-Americans lack drivers licenses. And drivers licenses, which people without cars often don't have, are costly not only in dollars but especially in time and inconvenience--hours on line and demands for birth certificates and other documentation many people lost long ago.

This "picture ID" ploy has worked brilliantly for Rethuglicans in recent years in several states. In a recent South Dakota election, new ID requirements suppressed the minority vote and switched a Senate seat from D to R.

See http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=1678997&mesg_id=1679481 for a thread on Bill Clinton's recent denunciation of this extremely discriminatory change in Georgia election law.

The CBS evening news said "thousands" last night. Yeah, tens of thousands. Reminds me of how Nixon lied about the numbers in the Vietnam protests.
