When I read the headline -- I thought -- the bush years: "The beginning of the end."

Your addition is right on: "if we don't do something to end it!"

The murder of the students at Kent State -- and no one lost their job or is serving time in jail for murder.

When that happened -- that was one of a string of "the beginning of the end." Perhaps beginning with the murder of JFK and the sham of an investigation.
