A Poem by Carly Sheehan - Cindy's daughter, set to music.
I found this earlier today and haven't quite recovered from it, but I think given what Cindy is doing we should all give it a read and a listen.

The Song - with words by Carly Sheehan

A Nation Rocked to Sleep
by Carly Sheehan

Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?
The torrential rains of a mother's weeping will never be done
They call him a hero, you should be glad that he's one, but
Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?

Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries?
He must be brave because his boy died for another man's lies
The only grief he allows himself are long, deep sighs
Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries?

Have you ever heard the sound of taps played at your brother's grave?
They say that he died so that the flag will continue to wave
But I believe he died because they had oil to save
Have you ever heard the sound of taps played at your brother's grave?

Have you ever heard the sound of a nation being rocked to sleep?
The leaders want to keep you numb so the pain won't be so deep
But if we the people let them continue another mother will weep
Have you ever heard the sound of a nation being rocked to sleep?

I wish those who lied to get this war supported would read it.
Perhaps it would not move them but these words from this person deserve to be read and heard. They should be on a bill board in neon for all to see and share in their tears and screams.

3. What beautiful words--a wonderful tribute to Carla's family.
Cindy is an amazing woman. I can only hope I would have the strength and resolve she has were I to lose a child in this ugly war, or the ones to come. It is doubly sorrowful that Bush and his minions are incapable of feeling any sadness or regret about what they are doing to this country. I can only hope that somewhere there is justice and these evil beings will be answerable for their sins. Meanwhile, we can all weep for the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, wives and children of those who are being sacrificed needlessly.

God help us all.

4. I think in considering Cindy's grief as a mother... we forget
that Casey had siblings...

I lost my brother when I was young, so I was extremely touched by this young woman's words.

5. The Sheehan family has shown more courage and compassion than
one could ever believe. It's a stark contrast to our president who
has never had to face a conflict that he didn't have someone get him out of.

I have a 17 yr old son. I could be her in a matter of months, and one of my best friends is dealing with her in son in the marines right now.

We've got to get peace, some how. There is no more waiting, no more choices. We've got to stop this insane war.
