"Showdown at the snack stand": Iraq war supporter murders friend
In case you missed this in LBN...

PRESTONSBURG, Kentucky - The Iraq war has been a divisive issue in America for more than two years now, but a shooting at an Eastern Kentucky flea market this week might have marked the first time a dispute over the war has resulted in a death.

A quarrel between two firearms vendors at a Floyd County flea market on Thursday allegedly led both men -- described as "good friends" -- to draw guns. Douglas Moore, 65, of Martin, who supports the war, shot and killed Harold Wayne Smith, 56, of Manchester, who opposed it, investigators said.

Moore was questioned at the Floyd County Jail, but he was released without being charged after Kentucky State Police said it appears he acted in self-defense....

"Harold was talking about the 14 people that were killed in Iraq the other day and Doug said that just as many people were killed on the highways here," Hamman told the paper.

Douglas Moore, 65, of Martin, who supports the war, shot and killed Harold Wayne Smith, 56, of Manchester, who opposed it,

self-defense. oh well. how sad. I guess it just never occurred to this guy to shoot his good friend in the foot, or right side, rather than in the upper left chest....hmmmmmmmmmmmm

3. So let me get this straight..
If I invite my victim to a gun show and get in an argument with him while he's showing me how you load a mauzer or what ever...I can shoot him and make it home for dinner.

11. Good point
I have owned hand guns long guns shot guns. Not any more though. I lived in boondocks then where it was fun and safe to shoot. I was never a hunter. Snake shot loaded hand gun in bad snake country is a welcome accessory I will admit.

after seven years of friendship, a friend of my DH's and I said he'd have no problem shooting me for my 'stupid beliefs and hatred against America"(his words)...all in the heat of anger. Im thankful there werent any guns around!

We don't talk much now.

She said her father "had different opinions than everybody. He felt it was wrong that all of these young people were losing their lives over what was going on. It was just a political disagreement, like a whole lot of people have."

21. I knew in my gut...
when the other thread on this was posted that at least the shooter was a gun dealer. It's a damned sad story - and I still find it fishy that they found a derringer 'close' to the decedant's body.

22. Now that you mention it, he was retired police officer. It would seem
Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 07:20 PM by BrklynLiberal
unlikely that he would pull a gun on a friend in anger. The more you think about it..the less sense that makes.

Columbo. Monk!!.where are you??!!!

25. "Self Defense". Yeah, right.
I've yet to hear a story about a war opponent shooting a war advocate to death in an argument. I've heard the opposite three times, IIRC.
