One of the stations that I alerted regarding Cindy Sheehan
:woohoo:(this is in "red" Texas folks)

At his Crawford ranch Thursday, President Bush said the U.S. will ‘stay the course’ in Iraq, but demonstrators, including some mothers of soldiers killed in Iraq, would like to change his mind.

More than 30 family members of soldiers killed in Iraq plan to confront the president at his ranch. They say they will demand that he honor their loved ones by bringing home all of our troops immediately. Of course, the President will most likely never meet any of these families, but a supporter of the families says the message they have is what is most important about their demonstration.
An AP poll taken Monday through Wednesday this week indicates that just 38% of Americans approve of the president's handling of the war and its aftermath.

A year ago, the public was evenly divided on Iraq and the president's stance on the war and terrorism helped him to election victory.

1. Here's another one
http://www.kvue.com/news/top/stories/080605ccjrcwwashprotestmom.4ac3c5be.html
Sheehan arrived in Crawford aboard a bus painted red, white and blue and emblazoned with the words, "Impeachment Tour." Sheehan, from Vacaville, Calif., had been attending a Veterans for Peace convention in Dallas.

The bus, trailed by about 20 cars of protesters and reporters, drove at about 15 mph toward Bush's ranch. After several miles, they parked the vehicles and began to march, in stifling heat, farther down the narrow country road.

3. Veterans for Peace and the Crawford Peace House supported Cindy's
action today. She was not alone.

4. True Texans won't approve of his behavior on that ranch
They're living in this heat, too. Being bitten by fire ants. They realize what Cindy is putting up with and that a true Texas gentleman would invite her in. Give her a chair to sit down on and some water to drink, AT THE VERY LEAST.

No, this won't play well in Texas. The wingnuts here are torn between their politics and their courtesy.

15. Long ago a republican running Govenor in Texas named Clayton Williams
Refused to shake opponents Ann Richards hand. It was a HUGH mistake and cost him not only the election but his reputation.

17. Clayton shot himself in the foot numerous occations. The thing that did
him in was is remark, "...it's like rape, if it's going to happen you should lay back and enjoy it."

Game, set, match. Election lost.

20. Unfortunately, I remember that very well, too
He kept making mistake after mistake like that. Showed his true character.... Well, the lack thereof. Ann Richards toasted him after that.

19. I remember that!
That was around 89-90, wasn't it? You're right. It cost Williams big time. Faded away after that. Thank God!

23. And he made a joke about rape
As recently as 1990, Texas gubernatorial candidate Clayton Williams compared inclement weather to rape, saying if it were inevitable that women should lie back and enjoy it.

24. There is a proverbial "last straw" for everyone
I'm willing to bet that there will be at least a few Texans for whom this lack of courtesy and chivalry towards a grieving mother will be that "last straw." There's no telling what will set some people off.

I'll be interested in seeing that poll repeated in September. ;)

8. Just went through all the stations that I sent releases to
Only 2 out of the 8 have this mentioned.:(
But, on the bright side, 2 stations have this! :)

Also--from another string, one of our Houston DU'ers notified his stations and they covered it.
So...this was covered in Houston, Austin, Temple/Waco/Killeen.

Not sure about Dallas though.

The messages are seeping out there! Keep it going.

13. See my post above. If channel 8 in Dallas has the story on the air...
the other stations will pick it up. I know them all too well (having worked for one) they play follow-the-leader with WFAA.

I will check the sites tomorrow for this.
One of the stations in Austin--KVUE--is a Belo station.

21. Good deal. The Belo stations all share stories (economics) so I'll bet
KVUE will have it.

The true test will be to see if the FOX O&O in Dallas (FOX4) finally decides to run the story to be "competitive" with the other stations.

Good job on alerting the stations. Weekend assignment editors are always looking for stories to run. They're all second-string folks who want to shine, but have limited resources on the weekend. One of these younger people might just have had the idea from you telling them.

10. If we and other bloggers can keep the heat on
and keep it in the news, and if Sheehan is willing to be very persistent, I bet she just might get that meeting.

Unfortunatley, I don't think anything Bush would say to her would make her feel better. It could actually make her much angrier and more depressed.

I doubt she would enjoy that at all: the man who sent her son off to a phony, bullshit war unable to give her a coherent explanation.

18. "If we and other bloggers can keep the heat on"
I don't see him as being able to meet with her, think on his feet at the same time and verbally portray an acceptable nobility based on his stated purposes for the loss of her son.
