No technicalities? I'm not in CA, so my opinion is void, really.

Bustamante would become acting governor and the winner of the election would then be governor. Bustamante would be back to Lt. Gov.

IIRC, the election would still proceed on October 7. The replacement part of the ballot would go on.

6. I have thought this myself... |
|
...but it was when the contenders for Davis' seat looked stronger and more organized. If he (Davis) were in real danger of losing to one of the Pukes -- or to Ah-nold, who can't even rise to Puke standards -- I'd say that would be a good strategy.

It doesn't work that way. The recall goes on, anyway. It's a crazy law, but that's how it works.

8. I don't see anything in the Ca Constitution countering this. |

I'm sure there's a legal catch somewhere.
This would obviously spark outrage, but I think it would work out ok in the end.

the only way for such a ploy to work would be for Davis to have resigned BEFORE the recall petition was certified. That would then nullify the petition.
the election will be held on Oct. 7th even if Davis gets hit by a meteor.

Even if Davis were to keel over dead after being struck by a piece of space debris, the recall would still go on.

If Davis resigns, and the recall is a resounding NO? :) :)
(Sorry, not that it matters, it's all a bit whacked.)

won't post misinformation. Dookus is correct. The recall goes on whether or not Davis resigns.
AND WHY SHOULD DAVIS RESIGN??? He has not committed any crimes...not being popular is not against the law.

It only reinforces the view of mine(and the view of Alan Colmes) that Republicans simply don't like elections.

She has been against the recall and was one of the first Dems to air a commercial here. She was re-elected by a landslide margin.
Davis didn't let ANYTHING get to this point, he was operating from a deficit since there were many many legal issues including the legitimacy of bringing people in from out of state.
All the free air time Arnold has gotten is also a factor.
While there are some tactical mistakes, I really don't think he has done so bad so much as he has been attacked with a number of falsehoods...far more than his actual errors.
Republicans voted for those budgets too.

This can be done. The treshold for signatures will be much lower than it was for Davis. Wait a month for Ahnold to F* up, and start getting signatures.
