It would appear appropriate to some to hear "distraught" connected with a mother whose son died in war (and they're hoping it does...to plant the suggestion better)....but knowing the tactics used, it's a safe bet the wording was nothing but an attempt to portray the woman as hysterical and not thinking clearly.
