Had some country "putting pressure on them" to complete their Constitution? Wonder how differently it would have turned out.

1. 1776 was the declaration of independence
the constitution wasn't even thought of in 1776

3. from everything i learned
the declaration of independence was done in a rush deal, and the constitution was drafted over one summer, not exactly a long time. the quicker iraq gets its shit together with a constitution, the quicker the country can govern itself, and the sooner we can bring the troops home.

5. the idea is alright
however the poster put it in a historically inaccurate way which undercuts the point somewhat

it's like if i said "what if in the eighties jfk hadn't pardoned nelson mandela, would apartheid still be the status quo in south africa?"

7. My apologies.
So What if in 1776 Franklin, Jefferson, Adams, Hancock, et al. were being pressured to "hurry up" on that Declaration of Independence. \

Not by themselves, but by another country?

Does Iraq get a Declaration of Independence? I guess they would need to write it themselves, or it's not truly "independent." The Right wants them to be like us so we can get the oil with minimal bombing and bad publicity.

6. Yup, Whoops.
Anyway.

It just irked me to hear on NPR how these people who are having to deal with bombings and kidnappings are being pressured to write governnment documents in a rush.

I want our people home as soon as possible, mind you. Bad stuff is going to happen whether we're there or not. This "pressure" though is just a blatant White House ruse to save face; "Look, they have a constitution, we can go home, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: part TWO."

They should have a well-though-out constitution, not one scribed under the gun.
