ABC News Anchorman Peter Jennings Dies of Lung Cancer at Age 67 - Bloomber
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=aX46hE_WaSRY&refer=us

Aug. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Peter Jennings, anchorman of ABC's ``World News Tonight'' for 22 years, died yesterday at 67, according to a story on ABC News Web site. He told viewers on April 5 that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer.

He died at his home in New York City, ABC News said. Messages posted today on the ABC News Web site offered words of support and calls for prayers for Jennings.

In an April 29 posting on the site after he had begun chemotherapy, Jennings wrote, ``Yesterday, I decided to go to the office; I live only a few blocks away. I got as far as the bedroom door. Chemo Strikes.''

Jennings, a high-school dropout, began his broadcasting career on Canadian television show when he was 9 years old and worked his way up the ranks of television journalism. He became the youngest TV anchor when he hosted ``World News Tonight'' for the first time from 1965. He covered, first as a reporter and then as anchorman, world events ranging from the Kennedy assassination to the demolition of the Berlin Wall to the Sept. 11 attacks.

Following the announcement of his illness, Jennings continued to participate in news meetings, ABC News said on its Web site. He posted several notes on the Web to fans, and a message of support July 8 to Londoners after terrorists bombed the transit system in that city. He had lived and reported in the British capital for 15 years.

His last message was on July 29, thanking supporters for their birthday wishes. He turned 67 that day.

5. Is it a bandwith problem? Is it deeply personal? What's your point?

2. Thanks for posting
I don't have much time in the morning, and yours was the only post on Jennings I saw when I dropped by DU.

3. Thank you so much for posting this. I do not have a TV and have not been
to DU for several days. I would not have known about it if you had not posted.

Very sad about Jennings. One by one the old school, real reporters are dying or retiring - the liberal media - being replaced by talking heads.

America is in trouble because we no longer have media outlets.

4. Jennings really used to be my favorite news anchor. That was before
he became a bush** administration whore. I haven't watched him for over two years for that reason.

10. Piss off? You're quite the raging intellect, aren't you?
I seriously don't care what you did for 30 years. I watched him for decades myself. I thought he was the most honest newsman out there until he decided to back the bush** administration. He at one time was the man who would be the first one to point out the lies and hypocrisy of anyone, including himself. He even openly talked about the failures and foibles in his own personal life.

All that changed during the 2000 election. He became one of those that shoved the lying little fake cowboy down our throats with his slanted stories and hype. And he did the same thing during 2004, like the rest of the media. In fact, the only one who showed any guts at all was Dan Rather, which took me totally by surprise.

I had not heard and don't get a chance to scour thru every single DU page. Condolences to the Jennings family and peace to Peter.

11. I will miss hearing him say "aboot" for "about"
One of those little things...

It's funny, I'm a year younger than he and somehow I guess I always thought that if he was ok then I was ok. Strange and illogical.
