The hypocrisy that social ills are the fault of liberalism hit home...
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 10:20 AM by tk2kewl
for me this weekend.

I participated in a particularly raucous bachelor party weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC - a town dedicated to such debauchery. I frankly don't know of any place in the land of liberals that has based its economy almost entirely on heavy drinking and strip clubs.

I was astonished to see a restaurant named the "Bang, Suck and Blow Saloon" on a main street adjacent to business like Target and Home Depot.

Now, don't get me wrong, I had a great time in Myrtle Beach, but I am so tired of the religious reich blaming liberals for their own sins.

1. Yep
I believe their are more girly bars, divorces, wife beatings, etc in the so called "Bible Belt" than anywhere else in the country.

Oh yeah, and there was this little thing called Slavery they overlooked for hundreds of years also....

2. Take a trip to Nashville sometime soon....
You'll see your theory played out in glorious stereo sound and brilliant technocolor; the headquarters of Corporate Christianity of America, Inc., Nashville has more Saturday night strip club/ massage parlor enthusiasts who somehow magically mutate into Sunday morning pious prude liberal-bashers than any city in the nation.

3. I find it interesting how the truly, unapologetically liberal countries
don't have nearly the same level of social angst that the *GOOD* ol' USA seems to sport.

4. The liberal sin of zoning keeps the girlie joints out of town
in the unincorporated areas.

Not that northerners have to pay women for company. We only have those places for the out of towners.

More seriously, the only place I have personally heard of that has fully nude dancing is in Windsor, Ontario. Those Canandians.

5. Fully nude? Not a problem in Myrtle.
Those places are BYOB.

I do know of such places in NYC, but they are scattered about and only serve non-alcoholic drinks and no BYOB.

14. See, it's the zoning thing again.
the only way to control the sex trade in the conservative states is to withhold a liquor license, because they love freedom as long as it doesn't involve booze or sex. It either works or it doesn't.

6. I've heard that red states not only take in more fed $$ than they give,
but that they also have more strip bars / massage parlors per capita.

Personal responsibility and moral clarity... courtesy of the party of hypocrisy.

9. I've heard the story about Federal Money....
It's featured in a bit of spam found all over the Internet.

Where are the figures for sexually oriented businesses? Didn't Carol Doda start (modern) topless dancing in the famously liberal city of San Francisco? One person's "moral clarity" is another person's prudishness.

15. Well, haven't found much...
a couple links claimed Portland was the strip club captial... this link says otherwise: http://archive.salon.com/health/sex/urge/2000/03/04/south/print.html

So... guess that one's up in the air.

7. Evangelical/Born-Agains' Own Internal Surveys
Show that their members have just as high or higher divorce rates than the national average, live together before marriage as much as non-evangelicals/born-agains, like their pornography as much as the rest of us, and have problem children at the same rate as the rest of us, and the vast majority of these people live in the south/bible belt, which is supposed to be Bush country.

Now couple that with the fact that red states take more in federal taxes than what they contribute (the opposite is true for blue states), and these good christian republicans have become what they've always hated - a bunch of welfare queens/kings, living in sin, and raising unruly children.

12. Some once remarked on this board

that the way to know when you were driving deeply into Republican True Believer country is the abrupt increase in porn shops and strip bars.

Traditional values hard at work.

16. I disagree
I don't know any southern baptist that will drink in their hometown -- they have to be at least 2 counties over. Its the hypocrasy of it all that just blows me away.

My former roommate followed this mold. SB, in FCA etc. in High School. At Olemiss he screwed anything that walked and would let him, drunk 10x the amount I did, did pot, did steroids on occassion. Graduated, moved back to his hometown, got married, and now thinks alcohol and premaritial sex is a sin. I look at him like he's lost his mind. He's a good guy, I like him, but like most adult SB's he's a hipocrit.

18. Jokes:
Why do you always want to bring two Southern Baptists with you when you go fishing? If you just bring one, he'll drink all your beer.

Why don't Baptists like to have sex standing up? They believe it will lead to dancing.
