God's Batteries?
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 02:59 PM by FlashHarry
So, I went to Interstate Batteries the other day to get a battery for my garage door opener. Right behind the counter, their mission statement is writ large for all to see:

To glorify God as we supply our customers worldwide with top quality, value-priced batteries, related electrical power-source products, and distribution services.

I've heard about Christian niche marketing (Christian dry cleaners, banks, debt reduction, etc.), but this is the first time I've seen such an overt Christian message in a national retailer (and yes I know Chick-Fil-A is closed on Sundays.)

Thoughts?

5. didja check out the "Corporate Chaplain's" page?
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 03:08 PM by BiggJawn
Welcome to one of the most unusual ministries in America. Interstate Batteries, a privately held corporation, has given me the privilege of developing ministry outreaches within a business context. Our ministry environment affords us the opportunity to present Biblical truths and tools to a variety of people within and outside our company. Some of these truths and tools are presented on the web page, and we invite you to peruse and utilize them however you please.

We have seen this work benefit many people for many years and trust that God will use it in a positive way in your life as well."

God's blessings to you,
Norm Miller
Interstate Chairman

OK, he can sell batteries for the "glory of God", I don't have to buy them from him.

I won't own a Buck knife for the same reason. No money to people who are actively working and supporting people who want to see me DEAD.

Another burned-out addict who's changed from Booze to Jeebus...

6. I must have missed that part of the bible
1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

1:2
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

1:3
And God said, Let there be batteries, that there may be also light: and there was Nickel Metal Hydride, and tungsten, and light.

1:4
And God saw the light, that it was good, because it was from Maglite.

12. Then you just haven't been keeping up
This piece abotu the Ark of the Covenant comes from "The Learning Channel" :eyes:

While some ponder the whereabouts of the Ark, others search for a scientific explanation of its miraculous powers.

In the late 1990s, for example, author Richard Andrews, who had worked in his youth as a furniture builder, constructed a replica of the Ark, following the precise instructions given in the Bible. He and others have a theory that explained how Aaron's sons might have been struck dead by merely touching the Ark. The object's design, they note, essentially made it a giant capacitor, capable of storing electrical energy. "Gold is one of the best conductors of electricity there is, while wood is one of the best insulators," Andrews wrote in a 1999 article for the Daily Mail, a British newspaper. "If the Israelites had set out to construct a primitive accumulator, they could hardly have picked a better design than the Ark." Subsequent tests of Andrews' model at a college laboratory confirmed that his Ark could accumulate and release an electrical charge.

The Ark was portable, and before being stored in the Holy of Holies, it was carried around the dry, hot desert environment of Israel. Andrews theorizes that the friction of the heated air against the Ark allowed it to accumulate static electricity, much in the same way that a car can do so on a hot day. "The strength of the charge would depend on variables such as humidity and temperature, but also length, speed and bumpiness of journey," he wrote. "There is no reason why the charge could not be lethal."

If the Ark was indeed a primitive but powerful electrical device, where did the knowledge to build such a device come from — other than, perhaps, divine inspiration?

9. I agree
This is why you're supposed to check things out yourself. In the book of Proverbs King Solomon encouraged this and he got his wisdom from God.
For all you know this person could just be riding on the money train.

10. Funny thing...
...I remember seeing on Nova or something that the earliest electrical batteries were found in Syria. They would put copper pegs into lemons to create a curious electrical current. Maybe it's actually Allah's battery. Or Nebuchudnezzar's. Or Zoroaster's. Hmm...

11. Interstate is a Manufacturer
Most of the automotive batterys used in this country are made by one manufacturer. That is Johnson Controls. Interstate Batterys is a national, but small, player. You can buy batters from most anywhere else (Including the house brand at Wal Mart and Sears Die Hards) and it will have been made by Johnson Controls.

17. Seems a little blasphemous to me.
Using God to sell something. Then again, God has been used for all sorts of humanity's failings for thousands of years. Ugh.
