Seems Novak is Roves favorite reporter when he needs a story leaked
Rove has a history of planting stories with his favorite reporter Bob Novak. In 1992 he planted another story With Novak(see below). Call me silly, but me thinks Rove may be behind this leak about Joe Wilson's wife.

This from daily Kos:

Sources close to the former president say Rove was fired from the 1992 Bush presidential campaign after he planted a negative story with columnist Robert Novak about dissatisfaction with campaign fundraising chief and Bush loyalist Robert Mosbacher Jr. It was smoked out, and he was summarily ousted.

1. But then how did Rove even know
that Wilson's wife was CIA? Where did he get this information? Someone had to give Rove, Wilson's files.

Why isn't Honest George demanding an internal investigation into who and how this crime was committed?

Remember when W was going to run the country like a business? Well in my business, if an employee did something like this, I would know by tommorrow who it was and that person would be filing for unemployment.

6. Poppy wouldn't name an undercover agent
No, I think this is one where W&Karl's brand of loyalty enforcement ("toe the line or we'll make you pay") has, in its relexive application, has incurred some "collateral damage" in one of Poppy's power bases.

3. He's Not The Prince Of Darkness For Nuthin'
Novak's been slithering around the beltway for 4 decades plus. For years he worked under the cover of his "mentor" the late Rollie Evans...Novak playing the hack/bad cop and Evans finessing it over. Evans died a couple years back and Novak has never regained his balance.

You can see how mad and cynical he's become...and he's a master manipulator. His pet cause has always been the Middle East where his anti-Israel views are well-known. While he claims he supported the war, he was very critical in the run-up (as critical as a GOOP can be) and I suspect Novak wanted to stir things up in the Pentagon and with hard-core NeoCons (he's no friend of Rummy or the far right)...aligning with the "establishment country/club" Republicans who just care to make lots of money and not much else.

I think Novak's chuckling about this whole story...it's great PR for him (hopefully Crossfire ratings will be up this week) and helps in his Newspaper syndication deals (he's a diety in my generally Liberal Chicago Sun-Times) and his longetity and DC connections give him a thick coating. Thus I think he has little to fear of being the "leaker" here.

The fun game is to find out who the other reporters the story was shopped to. Definitely Andrea Mitchell was on the "A-List"...and I wonder who at Faux was offered it (Tony or Brute) and why they passed.

4. We know where 4 journalists work
Sorta. Today's WP says that Wilson said he was actually contacted by 4 of the reporters who turned down the story. They worked for 3 networks.

Not sure if they were the 3 cables, the 3 broadcast, or a combination of both, but whoever did this from the White House tried to go for the big cheeses first, before they gave up and went the print route with Novak.
