If you could personally decide the president, who would it be? |
|
It's too bad I didn't send money to DU so I could do a poll...maybe I'll kick in some.
Anyhow, this is an interesting question, I think. A lot of people have talked about nominating an "electable" candidate. What if that was put aside, and you could have the power to decide who was president? Who would you want in that scenario? In other words, who would you want as president if you didn't have to worry about "electability"?
As far as myself, the three people I'm interested in for this question would be Gephardt, Kucinich and Sharpton. Really, I think I would be torn between Gephardt and Sharpton, labor and racial justice. I think I would put Sharpton in, not because it would change things in actuality, but that it would be a psychological change, kind of like Kennedy, the first Roman Catholic "ethnic" being elected.

I'm glad you posted first, so I wouldn't be the only one being called a vainglorious ass. But yeah -- me. At bare minimum, you can count on me to be mindful of not causing harm.
So me... or Superman. Truth, Justice, the American Way, and all that.

When you haven't met the wonder that is me? My science is tight, my technique is unstoppable, and most importantly, I agree with my every solution to every issue I've ever thought about. I enjoy 100% consensus on everything. Can you claim such wholehearted support? Hah! Sorry, you lose.

Because electing an old white guy just isn't much better than what we already have. For you Clark, Dean, and Lieberman supporters, why elect more of the same? They aren't that different from the rich white men that have ruined this country.

The most democratic member of Congress, even though he isn't a Democrat.
A no-apoligies progressive who tells the truth but is also able to build broadly based coalitions, and address "kitchen sink" issues.
He had a lot to do, for example, for gettiung the issue of media concentration on the table while most politicians ignored it. He also has been active in issues like veterans and in protecting civil liberties from abuses by the Patriot Act.

and I'd nominate Pete Stark as Vice President, a guy who'd happily take the job as hatchet man, sticking it to the Republicans any way he can, everytime he can. You've got to have someone this side of deranged to cover your flanks, or the Repubs will eat you alive.

10. Congressman Barney Frank or Ted Kennedy or Hillary |

I like Bernie but Bernie is just not super sharp like the above - I really like brains in the person running things (Teddy is not as sharp as the other two, but has a political intelligence and courage I really like).

If I had the power to do that, I'd probably also have the power to raise the dead, so what the heck.
Barbara Jordan had such a sharp mind. I am so glad that I got to hear her speak while she was alive. She would have been a great President.

Bill Clinton, or my former Congressman and 1998 candidate for governor of Illinois, the Hon. Glenn Poshard (D-IL); he had more personal decency, honor and integrity in the last joint of his little finger than the entire Rethugnicrat party have in the collective BODIES! He was and remains a true friend of the 'common man'.
