13. That's HarkEn. Remember: Harken = bad, Harkin = good.
Harken: Bush energy company allegedly involved in shady dealings.
Harkin: Progressive Democratic senator from Iowa.

:hi:

2. I'm hoping that the "old" media - the one that used to
smell blood in the water and then attack mercilessly - decides to make an encore appearance, if only for a little while. This story deserves top national attention, as does Colin Powell's flip-flop on WMD in Iraq.

4. you mean from "the media"? HA!
Don't count on it. If Bush lying in a SOTU speech leading to the deaths of thousands of people and hundreds of our soldiers, etc. doesn't cause a "feeding frenzy" this ain't gonna either.

Thanks, free and "liberal" media!!!

7. I disagree
Election season is beginning. People are already disgusted over Iraq and the lies about WMD. This is really serious. To reveal a CIA agent working ON WMD during a time of war against terrorism is outrageous. Now all her contacts are gone. All her work is gone. And we are supposed to be finding out where WMD are and how they might get into terrorist hands which is exactly what she was working on. This will NOT go away.

11. Sharks require a steady diet of facts and leaks
If there's more to report, there'll be more on this story. I'm as media-cynical as the next guy, but I think this story is getting a lot of play at the moment because the issues are clear-cut and there were some juicy new facts to go on, the stakes are high, and all that makes it dramatic and sellable to editors irrespective of ideological bias.

The problem I see is that AshKraupf's Justice department can simply sit on it, and unless the WPost's admin insider comes forward with some more details, or the CIA lets a few things out when it looks like Justice is stonewalling, it will simply run out of fuel.

14. We can only hope...but Arnold coverage rules the day
And will for at least the next two weeks, either way it goes.

Besides, the Whore Media are completely without honor or patriotism--they are fascists who have conspired in telling these lies, and this story could blow the lid off for them.

15. Why oh why?
Why in the name of God do we have to afix the word -gate to every scandal? Why???

17. The good part about "-gate"...
...is that it seems to grab the sheeple's attention. If that's what it takes to make it stick, then so be it...

23. I think the effect is the opposite
I think when people hear the -gate suffix, they tune out, because it becomes like the ancient parable of the boy who cried wolf. No scandal looms as large in the public imagination as does Watergate, but even the use of -gate is slipping with its effectiveness because the core news audience is made up increasingly of younger people with no direct memory of Nixon's demise. But enough people do remember, and whgen the latest 'scandal' erupts, and doesn't materialize, the reaction is a collective ho-hum.

The media is addicted to the term, because it recalls the long lost glory of real journalism from 30 years ago, and being a profit-driven enterprise, they hope it gets people to tune in, or buy their newsweeklies and papers.

It doesn't, and it won't.

22. Political terms were ever thus. I only wish "burford"
...had caught on.

To "burford": to promote a policy or candidate in such a way that you actually do more harm to that cause than benefit. From Anne Burford (later Gorsuch) of the first Reagan administration: an EPA official who, after she was fired, went about publicly defending the environmental policies of Reagan and her former boss, James Watt, in such a way that the administration was forced to ask her to kindly shut up.

20. Definite Feeding Frenzy
This is too big to be ignored. Especially with an "insider" who spilled his/her beans to the WAPO

CIA vs GW. The sides are drawn and I would suggest to everyone they fasten their seatbelts and prepare for a hell of show.
