I look forward to the time...
Every day I see couples, young and old, walking down the street, through the mall or the grocery store, holding hands. It is not unusual for them to stop and kiss each other even. As I watch them, I know they are in love and it warms my heart to see it at a time when the U.S. is in such a mess with Chimpy in the Whitehouse and our troops in Iraq dying because of a lie.

At the same time, it makes me wish I could hold the hand of the one I love as we walk down the street, or in the mall, or in the grocery store like I see so many times every day. But, I am not able to because the one I love is the same sex as me. Maybe we could if we were walking through the Castro in San Francisco. But not here. Lest we run the risk of being bashed, or worse, put in jail or prison for sodomy or some other ridiculous thing like that.

We've been together for ten years, Greekspeak and I. We help each other, nurture each other and love each other.

Will we ever be able to do something as simple as hold hands in public, without the fear of being bashed, made fun of, jeered at or otherwise harassed because we are showing the world we love each other? I don't know. But I look forward to the time when we could if we wanted to. I'm sure there are others out there like us. I'm sure you nice folks here at DU wouldn't treat us that way. But there are those people out there who ARE that way and are scared of us for some stupid reason, and it is those people who WE are scared of.

Thanks for listening to me.

1. Yes dear.
TO be honest,I don't know for sure if that will be in our lifetime. I firmly believe in reincarnation, though, and I don't belive such love would be denied expression in this life or the next. Here's hoping to it being in this one! You are inspiring.

3. Somehow
If a heterosexual couple holds hands and kisses in public, it's cute.

If a homosexual couple holds hands and kisses in public... OMG! They're flaunting their sexuality.

... People are stupid.

5. You know
seeing a gay couple like that always makes me tear up because I realize how many more obstacles they have inevitably had to face just to get to that point. Sorry, but any man and woman can kiss. Not so for them. Bravery and love in action.
Sorry; I'm on a roll toinght (literally):whole wheat!!

4. I hope so too.
I also hope for the day I can check the news and not feel like screaming at my government's administration's policies in general and specific.

6. Me too, Uppity!
Here we have a "president" who won't even go outside to talk to a grieving mother who lost her son in a war begun because of a lie. Ridiculous.

7. I really hope to live to see the day Clintmax. This world needs a lot
more love!

I hope you don't mind my adding some humor--but the other day I was searching for a bumper sticker online and saw one that made me laugh out loud...

"I don't mind straights, as long as they act gay in public."

Seriously though, I don't blame you a bit for feeling deprived. It's so sick to have to hold back a heartfelt expression of affection that is appreciated when it comes from others. But I am glad that you have each other. That's more than so many have.

8. I don't mind at all!
That's a great sticker and I laughed out loud too! Thanks for posting!

I'm glad to have him too. I have seen friends go from person to person looking for someone to love them. I've seen it tear them to pieces when the person they thought was going to be "the one" leaves them. I feel fortunate in that respect!

9. When I think of how many people I know in that situation and then how
worked-up so many get about a gay relationship it makes me feel positively unhinged! I don't know whether I feel more like ranting or crying, but tears come to my eyes!

10. Clintmax, your post made me weepy. I just cannot understand the mindset of
people so full of hatred that they can't stand to see others expressing their love. And then try to rationalize their prejudice with some cherry-picked verse from their bible, meanwhile ignoring all the other biblical laws that don't suit them. As Barney Frank once said, "What's Leviticus for the goose, is Leviticus for the gander".

I hope we soon see the day when you and your beloved can walk proudly hand-in-hand down any street.
