until you're activated and find yourself a corpsman attached to a Marine unit in hostile country, or aboard a hospital ship riding at anchor in the Persian Gulf (my guess would be the former).

commission, after more than a decade of active duty service as a Naval Medical Corps Officer.
Funny thing was, there was a time where I would've considered going back to finish up my retirement if I was still young enough. After what's happened the last several years, I can't envision a time during my lifetime when that would even be a possibility now.
