What if Bush agrees to meet with Cindy Sheehan ?? |
|
Cindy has to meet with him, right? Then the Bush propaganda machine comes out and puts their spin on it. And will say how sympathetic and understanding the "President" is of all the families of the troops who have been lost in this noble cause in the war against terrorism - against those that attacked us on 9/11, of which Iraq is the frontline in the war on terror. And the news media will report that the President tried to put the "Mom in Crawford" story behind him...
If that were to happen, what would Cindy say? What would her supporters say to counter the WH spin? Would that be the end of the story? But, if they arrest Cindy Sheehan and some protestors, then it's a different story?

1. It still would be a good thing because it proves |

he can be forced to pay attention to ordinary Americans. We still need to hound him until he gives us an exit strategy and a date to leave Iraq. It's not over until the war is over. We also need to anticipate that he might pull a bait and switch and invade Iran while evacuating Iraq. We have to insist that there will be no more invasions of oil rich nations.
In other words, we won't let up until he leaves the position of President one way or the other.

3. Cindy would describe her meeting with him honestly. |
|
She has already described her first meeting with * honestly.
She would definitely get more news coverage, and perhaps more of a chance to explain her position to the public after meeting with him.
And if he does meet with her, he has caved. * never apologizes or admits he was wrong. He perceives this as a sign of weakness. He would be weakened in his own mind, and it would show. And at least a few pundits would call him weak and vacillating.
We could counter the spin by saying that that the Resolute Resident has wavered by agreeing to her demands. And we could clamor for more of these types of meetings. If he met with her, why isn't he meeting with people whose jobs have been outsourced? Why isn't he meeting one-on-one with September 11th families who have gotten few answers? Why isn't he meeting with groups of disabled veterans who are getting the run-around over pay and medical care? More people with grievances could camp out on his doorstep and insist on answers. We could answer the spin with lots of protest and lots of noise.
