I just got a so-called email poll with no Dean on it. |
|
This was an email from a company named Online Research, their 2004 presidential poll. Kerry's name was checked. What kind of poll is this with only 4 names and not much about the company? The IP on the email was 204.97.91.115. I can only find that it leads to Online Vacation Center at Sprintlink. Can anyone do a better search. It was in HTML formal, but the heading did not lead back to a link. Called Online Research Presidential poll for 2004. Is this how results come from polls? No Dean is listed. Hmmm...mm.
You have been specially selected to participate in our research. PLEASE VOTE and thank you for your participation.
Which of these Democratic Presidential Candidates do you prefer :
John Edwards of South Carolina Dick Gephardt of Missouri Bob Graham of Florida John Kerry of Massachusetts Please enter your zip code: Please click to cast your ballot.

5. Yeh, just those 4 is odd. |
|
And to have Kerry already checked. Why pick just those four? It is a very colorful email, at first glance looks totally legit. But most HTML mails will allow you to link to the site from the email. This one does not.

3. Hm...if you reply, do they offer you a time-share pitch? |
|
I've seen surveys and raffles that actually (in small print) say that by entering, you agree to be contacted (whether you're on a do not call/do not spam list).

6. Nothing like that, just a button to click that says Vote. |
|
:hi:
Hey, if you leave off all but four of the candidates, check one, have the voting button handy, you can really skew a poll.

These thing are sent to do nothing but verify email addys to target for spam. The idea is to get a response, any response, to verify that its a real email address. Looky here: http://www.cybalert.com/presidential_poll.htm

8. "John Edwards of SOUTH Carolina"?? Is that your typo or theirs? |
|
I honestly saw an AP report with the line "North Korea Senator John Edwards"
I think, if you google it you can still find it on the internet.

12. Apparently they want to know how Kerry does.... |
|
if Dean and Clark are not in the race. Nothing wrong with that. It is a legitimate poll.
