Woodstock 2005 Bands Needed NOW- Crawford, Texas
Found this via a link from the Colorado Indy Media site:

http://www.benfrank.net/nuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=328

Hope for Tomorrow: Urgent: Woodstock 2005 Bands Needed NOW- Crawford, Texas- Drop your sched and GO

Justice for All? To all who want peace in America, now is the time to expose the corruption. We urge everyone to drop their schedules and go to Crawford, Texas right now. It's time to stage the Party to end all parties, camping out in the heat of texas will make for great tv (- ;

The truth has emerged, it's just a matter of getting it to the masses. They all Deliberately lied, they Used 9/11 as a pretext for war.

Now Bush, Cheney and all those dopes in Congress are on Vacation! While more innocent Americans and Iraqis continue to die everyday! It is an outrage!

Cindy Sheehan, who lost her son in Iraq and is now President of Gold Star Families for Peace, has vowed to stay in Crawford until she meets with Bush.

Massive Party in Crawford, Texas NOW. Somebody with money that wants to save America- buy tents and yurts and build the mini-city overnight.

Spearhead, Ani Difranco, Jello Biafra, Willie Nelson, Eddie Vedder, David Rovics, Saul Williams, Supaclean- ALL of you incredible artists that know wtf is going on- please take a detour to texas.

Hmmm, okay, whatever.

But, if Mick would just speak up, in addition to the new song that is reportedly about to be released, well that could go a long way in the PR department for our efforts.

While I like this idea does anyone have any idea what kind of logistics are involved in an outdoor show? Things like food, water, toilets, a stage, sound system, lighting, generators, weather precautions, permits, security and those are off the top of my head. If someone does manage to pull it off I'd be happy yo play. I'm not famous or anything but I am talented... and modest too ;)

39. Hell have 'em be like "inspiration minstrels" and go around doing little
accoustic sets and accapella all over Crawford and in the bigger peace camps, they can entertain our frontline heros like GSF, Code Pink, VFP, MSFO... as this thing gets big over the next few weeks there could be happenings all over wherever the crowd is gathered.

Keeping the gigs sorta limited and back porchy should fend off most of the security risks for a few weeks and then we use the big chunk of land someone donates because they are overcome and feeeeeeel the love! Turdstock here we come!!

Man, if you're gonna dream... dream hard!

I mean, HELL, The Revolution Starts Now....

The man has been politically active for years.

Anyone here remember MAJIC? Mothers Against Jessie In Congress.
When he was asked to perform and he found out it was a group in North Carolina dedicated to ousting Senator Helms, he waived the fee and performed at their fundraiser gratis....There are a lot of less talented performers who have become more famous and earned much more -because he bucked the system every time he knew it was the proper thing to do....

Also, Jon Bon Jovi did appearances with Kerry during the campaign....

40. Okay, so I wrote -
"Go, Go, Go" --- Woodstock 2005 Bands Needed - Crawford, Texas!!!

Dear Russell,

I am writing on behalf of Democratic Underground (www.democraticunderground.com), a liberal web blog with 74,635 user registrations and 17,189,874 posts since January 2001. We are very energized about Gold Star Families leader and mother Cindy Sheehan whose son died in Iraq in 2004 and who is facing off President Bush on his home turf, only asking that he come out to talk with her while he vacations for a month in Texas.

Cindy has been camped out outside of Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas since last week in a ditch. More and more Americans join Cindy every day. She has drawn some attention of the national mainstream media, and we hope her courage and presence there will open a groundswell of questions from the American public about how we got into war (our government lied, profiteering, etc), why we are staying there, and how can we get out.

We are hoping that a movement will start because of Cindy, and know that music can be a big part of this movement, like happened in the sixties (Go, go go!!). The Indigo Girls are AWESOME, and their music very deep, inspirational, and rockin'! I know that the Indigo Girls are doing a lot already (thanks for being at the Voting Rights Act march), but am hoping that they might be interested in going to Crawford and performing there. I realize there are logistics involved in an outdoor show like food, water, toilets, a stage, sound system, lighting, generators, weather precautions, permits, security, etc. and I don't know how this can be pulled off, but I thought if the Girls were interested maybe they would have some ideas - and of course $.

On behalf of a concerned American, I am hoping you might listen to this plea and help Cindy. You can get more information and contact her at:

First, I'm sorry if it is not okay to say I'm writing on behalf of DU... is it?

43. I was unable to find such detailed contact information
for Steve Earle. What I did find was

1) http://www.steveearlefans.com/contactme.htm

2) streetteam@steveearle.com.

The e-mail I sent (to both contacts):

I don’t know if you are familiar with the story of Cindy Sheehan. Following is a brief synopsis of Cindy’s story:

“On April 4th last year, 24-year-old Army Specialist Casey Sheehan died in Iraq. This week, while President Bush vacations in Texas, Casey's mother, Cindy Sheehan, sits vigil outside the president's ranch. Cindy says that she won't leave until President Bush meets with her to discuss the war—even if it means spending all of August there.

Cindy Sheehan was not an anti-war activist, but the loss of her son and the mounting evidence of deception by the Bush administration pushed her to speak out. While Cindy camps roadside in Texas, dozens of other military moms are flying to Texas to join her. Her story is starting to grab national attention, but Cindy needs our support. “

(This is from a MoveOn.org political action summary.)

The primary reason I am contacting you is because I have become aware of an effort by individuals to support Cindy (and the parent of every other US casualty of the current Iraq conflict who wants a TRUTHFUL answer from the current administration why their sons and daughters are dying) by staging an ‘impromptu’ concert in Crawford Texas.

For more detailed information, check out the following link:
http://www.benfrank.net/nuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=328

Having been a dedicated Steve Earle fan for decades, I know that this is the type of activity he supports – not for possible PR gain, but because it’s the right thing to do. I know that Steve is busy, but if this isn’t the type of event that “The Revolution Starts Now” was written for and about, I have been SERIOUSLY underestimating Steve’s dedication. (Which, I know I’m not – I still recall his participation in a fundraising effort for MAJIC: Mother’s Against Jessie in Congress – And I’ve lived in the state of WI for the past 30 years).

I seriously feel this is something that should be checked out by Team Steve Earle. If you are already aware of this effort, I should like to take the time to say that as a dedicated Steve Earle fan, I feel he should particiapate.

On the other hand, if you are not aware of this effort, I think you should check it out. And, let me reiterate that as a dedicated Steve Earle fan, I still feel he should participate.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this effort, and I completely understand if Steve is unable to participate. I just did not want him to overlook this opportunity due solely to not having been informed of it prior to its occurrence.

If anyone knows of a more detailed contact to whom this message should be sent, please post the site/address so I can forward the message directly to that individual.

Thanks

49. If you copied from me, THANKS (seriously, makes me feel useful), AND
As someone posted here, there are real limitations on space at the actual "Camp Casey". It is NOT realistic to plan any concert there beyond a seranade. You'd be lucky to fit the band, let alone the bandees.

However, the camp is only 5 mis. from Crawford center. I think any event that took place nearby there would do the trick.

Apparently there's a stadium in Crawford, and as I left, there was discussion about trying to get permission to use it as a parking/pick-up/drop-off point for a shuttle, so folks could park there and shuttle to Camp Casey--since there's room for a LOT more bodies at Camp Casey, but NOT more cars.

Obviously, the stadium might be an IDEAL concert location. Maybe your admission to the concert is something stamped to show you were at Camp Casey (via shuttle). Souvenir for a lifetime.

We need to know: do we have any meaningful ally out there who would help us get into the stadium? Or maybe who just owns some land we could set up on? I'd start by calling Peace House in Crawford.

Also, bear in mind, Bush and Cindy are OUT of there at the end of August, so this has to happen FAST, or wait 'til Bush's next vacation--which might not be so far away.

Finally, bear in mind, temperatures above 100 are normal in August in TX. Preparation must include emergency hydration etc. for not-so-bright attendees etc., or this could backfire.

All that said, I TOTALLY LOVE THIS!!! I think we should TOTALLY DO THIS in whatever setting will work.

(So you'll understand the space limitations at Camp Casey, as of today, the limitation as described to us by the police was that we had to be completely OFF the road--no parked car tires even touching it--and also OFF private property. This leaves a narrow strip of green, today quite muddy since it rained all day. I think if we lined this strip with a few thousand protesters, it would make a FANTASTIC statement. But add cars and there's no room for anything else.)

mercy merci

They have an antiwar concert planned for September 24th (they had one today IIRC in DC). We have to find a way to get all those bands to Crawford, and sooner. I'll certainly be up for raising funds if need be.

In the meanwhile, help me show support for their doing this by contacting them here:

73. John Mellencamp!!!! U2!!
Both aren't afraid of speaking out politically.

Actually, I have a friend who was just signed to WB records last year and he's been touring with Billy Corgan 'round the US. New album comes out next month...He's very anti-war. I'd love to see him schlep to Crawford. He's Irish and would get a real kick out of something like this. I'm not sure exactly where he is. I'll send an e-mail to his drummer.

Just an aside: Oddly enough, in December 2000 I met up with him NYC and I told him how utterly scared shitless I was about * becoming President, and we had that discussion as we walked to the WTC. We were going to go to the top at WTC, but we didn't have enough money on us. We said, "Eh, we'll go to the top next time we're in NYC."

I'm kicking myself now. I never made it to the top of the WTC because * and his bungling gaggle of MORANS fell asleep at the wheel.

Oops...sorry to digress!

54. Bright Eyes
"When The President Talks To God"

When the president talks to God
Are the conversations brief or long?
Does he ask to rape our women’s' rights
And send poor farm kids off to die?
Does God suggest an oil hike
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Are the consonants all hard or soft?
Is he resolute all down the line?
Is every issue black or white?
Does what God say ever change his mind
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Does he fake that drawl or merely nod?
Agree which convicts should be killed?
Where prisons should be built and filled?
Which voter fraud must be concealed
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
I wonder which one plays the better cop
We should find some jobs. the ghetto's broke
No, they're lazy, George, I say we don't
Just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke
That's what God recommends

When the president talks to God
Do they drink near beer and go play golf
While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?
I guess god just calls a spade a spade
When the president talks to God

When the president talks to God
Does he ever think that maybe he's not?
That that voice is just inside his head
When he kneels next to the presidential bed
Does he ever smell his own bullshit
When the president talks to God?

I doubt it

I doubt it

Especially if they played a lot of songs from Operation:Mindcrime.

61. great band suggestions
where the hell is everybody? can't anyone be spontaneous and just say we're cancelling gigs for the next month as the Revolution is in progress...

maybe they need a stage... you know- if we build it they will come.

the Stones have a new one "Sweet Neo Con" - i love it! so they KNOW... it's just a matter of convincing those 60 year old rockers that they've got nothing to lose... it'd be cool if some DUer had a cousin on the Stones road crew- any chance you could talk them into bringing their stage and sound system to Crawford- we need it for The Party.

don't just empathize- inform others, then plan your caravan!

after this post i'm going to finish another flyer- a pass around the office informative/motivational flyer- so check back later (- ;

62. OK, how about getting some punk bands in the lineup.
Not only are the bands great but the names fit the current administration and situation they have put the country in.

Severed Head Of State
R.A.M.B.O.
Dirty Rotten Imbeciles
Runnamucks
Boxed In (because that's where Cindy has put Dubya)
Human Waste
Hellnation
Living Under Lies
Fucked Up
Path of Destruction
Bomb Heaven
Municipal Waste
World Burns to Death
Extinction of Mankind

Ah...there are so many more but I think you get the idea. ;)

76. Got a Reply
I got a reply from an artist I emailed regarding getting some musicians down there and he (actually his manager) said that they were doing a show in Dallas in August and had thought about dropping by Crawford while in Texas. No names or promises but this artist is an acoustic guitarist/storyteller and has been active for the Kerry campaign and the Rainbow Push Coalition, just last week. He's awesome! Anyway, hopefully he will stop by and play a bit even though he's in the middle of recording at the moment. But it looks promising! Waahoo!
