Operation Lifeline (our over 6000 wounded & ill troops)

http://www.americasheroes.us/operationlifeline.html

While working directly with Andrews Air Force Base we have learned of the severe lack of personal care items for wounded troops returning directly from the battlefield who arrive first at Andrews for immediate medical attention. Their uniforms are cut to shreds for direct access to wounds. Many are still fighting low morale, loss, trauma and internal war. Some wrestle with the fact that limbs must be amputated. We may never begin to comprehend the sacrifices these men and women have made but we know it is only right that we help meet their basic needs and to help them feel whole, welcomed and loved.

A lack of media coverage on our wounded servicemen and servicewomen may have us believe the need is nonexistent but in reality it is very real and very great. Many fellow Americans also find it difficult to absorb that these personal care items are not furnished as standard procedure and therefore our plea to our Nation to aid our Finest has mostly gone unanswered. We believe the Nation would be shocked to learn that over 6,000 wounded and ill American soldiers from all branches of the armed forces have thus far come through Andrews prior to going to military hospitals or their homes to recover.
