So my right wing brainwashed friend is the worlds biggest Stones Fan
and he didn't know about the new song and Mick's comments so I showed him the story. I don't think he even acknowledged reading it to himself. His truth resistant republican hide couldn't absorb it. He just went on to ask if I'd heard the new single yet (not Sweet Neo-Con) I had a moment of pity for him and decided not to press it and agreed the tune rocked. He loves Pearl Jam and the Grateful Dead too but I wonder for how long. He's clearly conflicted. Bwah ha ha ha ha.

11. Ha ha. Remember how they used Fogarty's song?
Fortunate Son. It was used to sell jeans shortly after Sept 11. Of course, they could only use the opening riff and the line "Some folks were born, made to wave the flag, oh they're red white and blue" -- because this is an antimilitarist anthem. Obviously aimed at the young, who might not know the context of the original release. Those of us who remember when it was first released -- well, the commercial was very stupid.

Fortunate Son lives on as an anthem to oppose militarism and governmental deception and hypocrisy.

5. This is my best friend
and former Democrat I used to travel to see dead shows with and do the whole neo-hippy thing in the 80's. You're right his musical taste hasn't quite synched to his new poilitical programming yet. It breaks my heart the blind support he has for Bush. Says 9/11 changed his mind. He's been forbidden to bring up politics or the war while in my house. Only way we can remain friends.

14. That's interesting.
He was a Democrat? What made him change? Maybe it was there all along. It had to be something more than 9-11. On 9-11 his newly found hero was sitting on his arse in a Floridian class-room trying to sound out the big words in "My Pet Goat." Hardly a hero.

Sounds like your friend is just the sort of person who might take it to heart

8. We should suggest to mick and the boys
that they pool a little spare change and buy Fox. Crazy old rockers might just think its a hoot and go ahead and do it.

15. LOL.. why am I not suprised
The Stones haven't moved huge numbers of records since the 70's. When you sell out 50,000 seats per show who gives a shit how many records you sell.

13. That reminds me of wingnut I knew
who LOVED John Lennon. His favorite song was 'Imagine'. I told him I was amazed that capitalist, Ray-gun conservative would actually say that a song that was a Communist anthem was his favorite song. He flipped out and we almost came to blows. I finally convinced him to listen to the words of the song. He clearly did listen and it must have short circuited his little pea brain.

We never discussed politics again.

17. Quisp!!!
I used to have a pretty bad Quisp habit back in the late 70's. It started out with those small, cut open, self contained cereal boxes that you bought in bulk to go camping. Soon it became my obsession. I'd fight with my parents trying to convince them I needed more to get the special send away prize. I'd be buying small baggies of the stuff at school and then sneak milk back to my locker from lunch by pouring it in the space between my books and the heavily laminated covers we were required to buy for them. I can't say anymore. The memories are too much.

but I have Captain Crunch to thank for it. A true military hero if ever there was one.
