I can't believe that I am seeing people trying to start flame wars over...
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 02:32 AM by Maddy McCall
Cindy and those of us who want to be there but have obstacles. Some of you live in Texas and can be there in an hour or two. I think it's great that you have been there and I have appreciated your reports. It is you guys, providing updates and photos, who are inspiring my trip to Camp Casey.

Some of us live far away and will have to make travel plans, book hotels, and have our cars serviced before we can come. Those of you who haven't even visited Camp Casey yet and who live two hours from Camp Casey, and who are foisting stupid guilt trips on those of us who can't immediately get in the car and drive there--well it's just ridiculous that you would try to make anyone feel guilty who is planning to visit, just because the plans don't match the schedule to which YOU think we should adhere.

Please, let's all get along. We are all supporting a tremendous cause and a wonderful woman. Why try to create division when there should be none?

I thought the post was a little harsh too. Don't let them get to ya girl;the fact that you may even be able to go is better than most of us.
Armchair Warriors unite.......

3. Thanks, ld.
I'm psyched about going. My son can't wait. But even being an armchair warrior is great activism, as even Cindy has said. She knows that people at DU support her. And she will need that emotional support if she is going to last all month.

5. I saw that.
Bunch of rubbish if you ask me.

Maddy do what you can do, when you can do it. You will be there eventually and until you are there physically, you will be there in spirit.

6. agreed. I live in Alaska and would do a lot to come and help. I
just can't. One of the big disappointments of my life, I tell you. This woman is my hero.

7. Yeah, I was surprised when I read that snarky response to your
post.

I'm one of the "armchair warriors" myself. There's nothing more I would like than to be able to travel to Texas to support Cindy, but right now it's physically and financially impossible.

Hopefully, by the weekend I'll be able to donate a small amount of money to the cause, but, when bills need to be paid and you're not feeling all that great, what's more important. Besides, I know that my car wouldn't make it from the Chicago suburbs to Crawford, Texas. Tune up or not.

9. Definitely not you.
Seeing your picture in one of the threads, and seeing all of the photos of Cindy and others is why we're coming.

10. I'm in MA and can't come - but look at what the LA TImes has published
about Cindy's efforts! It's the strongest and longest major media article yet and makes it clear that there's a grassroots response to the stand she is taking. I hope this cheers you and trumps flame wars:

11. I read that article a little earlier.
It does cheer me. Great to see that the MSM is finally listening, at least a little bit.

12. Glad someone with a high post
count is pointing this out. It's really disheartening to see division and suspicion in a place such as DU that has the capacity and ability to make true differences in our world. I don't understand it.

I'm leaving this morning, driving all the way from the Eastern Panhandle of WV, car loaded with supplies. Fortunately my partner will be holding down the fort here at home. This trip is a bit of a strain on the budget but it has to be done. With little notice it's the best we could do.

Believe it or not, I've had more responses from DUers telling me I should have tried making it by Wednesday or Thursday in case there are arrests (I guess so I could be there in time to be arrested for the cause) than any letters of support. Never mind the 1400+ mile trip.

Ah well. I've got a long day of driving ahead of me and I don't want to start in a cranky mood. Hope to see you there!

And to Cindy and the gang -- hang in there, heroes! America's on its way!

17. I can't believe it either.
Suppose I shouldn't say that I am now going at all. Bad time to take days off work (big projects at hand), money situation and my 93-year-old mother to whom I am caregiver.... If I go anywhere, I have to plan weeks ahead of time.

Jeez, I couldn't even go to Andy's memorial for the same reasons as above.

I have enough on my own. Stuck in new york. have enough money to get me to pennsylvania maybe. i feel this is the most important gathering of the anti-war movement with the second being the one in DC. i guess I can feel good knowing that i will be in DC if i have to hitchike but it sucks being the reserve force if the main army can't win the day. I have high hopes the people that can go will go to crawford and start this revo...uh errr. peaceful protest out right.
