Pig farm...pigs....time to revive that old insult of the |
|
Sixties? Remember when "pigs" were the cops who acted against anti-war protesters? Well, this time around, it fits for the owner of the Pig Farm in Crawford and those who help him carry out a corporate war.
Pigs.

3. Have you seen the little piggies |
|
Crawling in the dirt And for all the little piggies Life is getting worse Always having dirt to play around in.
Have you seen the bigger piggies In their starched white shirts You will find the bigger piggies Stirring up the dirt Always have clean shirts to play around in.
In their styes with all their backing They don't care what goes on around In their eyes there's something lacking What they need's a damn good whacking.
Everywhere there's lots of piggies Living piggy lives You can see them out for dinner With their piggy wives Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon.

besides, this is not the sixties. I think this period should have its own identification. Personally, I prefer to think of that period in terms of the historical accomplishments, like civil rights, rather than cultural idioms because to be honest, the era is more identified with 'drugs, sex and rockn'roll' than with the more important events that occurred.
The War, the assassinations, the struggle for rights. I had to take the trouble to research it to find out that it wasn't all about 'hippies' and 'love-fests' or drugs, wimpie lefties, commies etc. That's how it is identified by the right and the rest is lost, as they intend, I think. That's a turn-off to a lot of people. And the real importance of the period is not being learned.
Just my opinion, but I am sick of the rightwing using the 'sixties' to denigrate everything, by focusing on these things ~ so I guess I think that if the sixties are to be referred to at all, a lot of education is needed.

I remember the 60s, it was a great time but what was really great about it was that there was so much happening all at the same time!!
Yes, there were hippies, drugs, rock 'n roll but also so much more! I think probably the best thing about the 60s to me, was that it was a time when we saw that ordinary people had the courage and the ability to change things for the better!
And I didn't even realize until much later........I took a history class at a Junior College about 15 yrs ago, anyway according to this history class, the most important achievement of the 60s was feminism/women's lib! I didn't even know about that until I took that class and I lived through the 60s!!
I believe that if we are to change the current course of this country, it will come in the form of 60s-like protests! That's why I think Cindy is doing such a great thing now!! She is organizing a massive movement to promote protests! (It's just icing on the cake that she's doing it at a time when Bush is on one of his extended vacations!)

12. Tulsa, you are right. |

The Sixties were about the common man taking control of events. There were all sorts of movements--anti-war, civil rights, women, labor, human rights--and much progress was made. It was a time to dream of possibilities and to work to actualize them. It is that spirit that we need to recapture and to convince the common man that there are dreams that consumerism will never fulfill.

It fits better.

7. But Bush is the Pig Farmer |
|
From Animal Farm : http://www.online-literature.com/orwell/animalfarm/1/Old Major cleared his throat and began to sing. As he had said, his voice was hoarse, but he sang well enough, and it was a stirring tune, something between Clementine and La Cucaracha. The words ran:
Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland, Beasts of every land and clime, Hearken to my joyful tidings Of the golden future time.
Soon or late the day is coming, Tyrant Man shall be o'erthrown, And the fruitful fields of England Shall be trod by beasts alone.
Rings shall vanish from our noses, And the harness from our back, Bit and spur shall rust forever, Cruel whips no more shall crack.
Riches more than mind can picture, Wheat and barley, oats and hay, Clover, beans, and mangel-wurzels Shall be ours upon that day.
Bright will shine the fields of England, Purer shall its waters be, Sweeter yet shall blow its breezes On the day that sets us free.
For that day we all must labour, Though we die before it break; Cows and horses, geese and turkeys, All must toil for freedom's sake.
Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland, Beasts of every land and clime, Hearken well and spread my tidings Of the golden future time.

Hey you Whitehouse, ha ha, charade you are You house proud town mouse, ha ha, charade you are You're trying to keep our feelings off the street You're nearly a real treat All tight lips and cold feet And do you feel abused? .....!.....!.....!.....!
