Camp Casey Lawyers say "rumors of pending arrests...false"
http://www.defiancezone.com/PeaceInPink.php

Updates from Camp Casey - "rumors of pending arrests...false."
Here is the latest information from Buddy Spell, the house attorney for Camp Casey -

"We've met for the last hour with two representatives of the McLennan County Sheriff's Office - Lt. Side Franklin and Sgt. John Kolinek." The legal team, comprised of Louisiana and Texas attorneys, and the Sheriff's office have a deal with the shared stated goal of having no one arrested, period. And we are prepared to say that any rumors of pending arrests of anyone at Camp Casey are false."

Also, Buddy has informed us that the Texas Civil Rights Project has found contributors of portalettes so that the protesters are able to have bathroom facilities on site. They expect the bathrooms will be delivered within the next few hours.

Buddy states that there are about 400 people total around the triangle. Roughly 100 media personnel and 300 protesters. He says that he has met Argentinean, Asian, German and BBC news people.

Families and supporters are building a mock-cemetery around the original tents. They have been working on the project since 6:30 AM this morning. There is a huge awning above the tents. Families on site have crosses for their children right up front, the rest are comprised of crosses for others killed in the war. They are filling up along the road, about 50 to 70 yards long, 3 deep.

Buddy relates that he and the rest of the legal team feel confident enough with the deal made with the local Sheriff that the Texas legal team was able to leave, which leaves Buddy and Annie on site as house attorneys for the protesters.

Pictures should be forthcoming, if they are not up already. NOGoddess from politicalswitchboard.com will be getting them up as soon as possible.

4. Arrest rumors are to be expected from agents of the Regime.
The rabble must be kept off-balance and nervous at all times. Otherwise, they might glimpse the Chimperor's swell new wardrobe.

5. It might not be local law enforcements decision.......
if the protesters are deemed "National Security Threats", the US Marshals, Homeland Security, Secret Service etc. will be involved, not the local Police. I wouldn't let your guard down. These bastards play dirty and they play for keeps, I'd put nothing past them.
Other than that, it sounds like everything is pretty much under control and progressing nicely. Good job! :applause:

6. I assume no weapons, no alcohol are allowed.
Nothing against weapons and alcohol per se but they can lead to trouble in group environments. It's not that people bring weapons or alcohol to start trouble. It's just that minor disagreements can turn to serious violence when weapons and alcohol are around.

Update from Camp Casey!
August 11th, 2005

Hey Everyone - NOGoddess here from William River Pitt’s hotel room in Waco, TX! We’ve been out at Camp Casey all morning - it’s hot and getting hotter. No one has been arrested

I’ll try and get this in some order…

We got to Crawford around 3am and slept on the floor at Crawford Peace House - we were thankful there was a little floor space (under tables, in the walkway) so we didn’t have to set up camp in the dark in the mud.

Got up around 6am, folks had breakfast, etc. and headed out to Camp Casey. There’s actually some really pretty woods around there… brush to clear, I guess. Camp Casey is growing in size - more and more groups being represented. The police are being pretty cool so long as everyone stays off the pavement. They like to make people move their cars and things like that, small annoyances. The health board showed up, but didn’t find anything to shut us down over.

Cindy is doing well and seems in good spirits. There was a press conference this morning with Cindy and other military families, with a backdrop of crosses. Rather emotional - it’s hard to shoot video and try not to cry at the same time. Actually, shoot video with one hand, try not to cry, and take pictures with the other hand I’ve been shooting a bunch of video with the Spell’s miniDV, but we don’t have the capacity to upload that right now.

A motorcade came through before the press conference that we think was either Condi or Rumsfeld, and a bunch of vans after the conference that was probably the press corps.

About 70-80 people are out there right now, and more are arriving.

Jim Harrington is trying to get plaintiffs to sue to move Camp Casey closer. Hopefully something will take place with that in a few hours, but that’s all I can say about that at the moment.

There’s lots more to say - it’s going to take me a little while to filter things, I’m a bit rushed right now trying to get photos uploaded while I have use of this connection - if I can get that done, I’ll come back and try to post more.

But it’s great to be there - none of us would be anywhere else right now. As I said, the press conference was very emotional - though I knew I needed to be there, I didn’t understand how much until I heard Cindy and the other families speak. Their grief is so tangible, and the need to end this war and get our soldiers out of Iraq NOW is so clear. I don’t know how anyone can listen to them and not feel that, not be able to understand how real and raw their emotion is - you can see why Bush does not want to see this (aside from not caring).

If every person in this country could hear these people, could be with us at Camp Casey and hear them firsthand, the war would be over today.

I’ll try to post more later - got to go post this on some other blogs.

Cindy sends her love to everyone - I haven’t had a chance to give her personal messages yet, she is constantly busy with interviews, calls, etc., but I will get that chance. She is an incredible woman.

P.S. It’s hot!

13. Arrests at this point would be counter-productive
Anyone else perceiving things are unraveling (politically) ever since Rove got his manboobs stuck in the wringer?
