What ideology are we fighting? Contradiction from GW
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 01:17 PM by Armstead
In his news conference, GW just said we are fighting a hateful ideology around the world.

Then in the next sentence, when describing what we are fighting for, he said that girls deserve to grow up with opportunity and freedom.

Hmmmm....Earlier today, saw a report about the potholes in the process of drawing up a new constitution in Iraq. They showed a woman involved in the process who is in the faction pressing for it to be based on Islamic law. She said (Paraphrased) "We are an Islamic society and our Constitution should reflect the desire of the majority to protect that hetitage and culture."

Makes you wonder. What about the people in Iraq who are conservative Muslims who are fully engaged and supportive of the process of "democratic constitution" but do not support the desire for complete equality of women?

Are those "allies" in our campaign to bring "freedom and democracy" to the world really on our side, if they disagree with such values as equality for women? With us or against us?

IMO this is yet anotehr example of how we screwed up big time when the war against terrorism was allowed to morph into something bigger.
