Poll question: Should IMMEDIATE withdrawal from Iraq be advocated by Democrats, |

officeholders and candidates?
I believe this is the correct position in any case, and by NOT advocating this, Democrats will be running "behind" the Republicans no matter WHAT happens.

There comes a time when silence signifies betrayal, as Martin Luther King, Jr. reminded us.

3. Yes, we need to frame this. |
|
We need to make the debate about when we will withdraw, not when Iraq will be ready.

In fact, Iraq can never be ready until we are out.

8. Indeed, and I think people will realize that if given the chance. |

But as long as everyone in power reinforces the "our troops are helping not hurting" frame it is going to be very difficult to ever get them out.

5. It wouldn't hurt for Democrats to get ahead of this thing. |
|
Well, it will be hard for them to "get ahead" of it, when nearly half the population is in favor of a pull out...

Calling for an immediate withdrawal won't do any good. It'll just allow the Republicans to say "The Democrats gave up on Iraq before we did."
Then we'd be the bearer of bad news and give the Bush administration the ability to cop out when they eventually withdraw.
I say we let them fall on their faces and break the news that we're withdrawing from Iraq.
Democrats calling for a withdrawal won't do anything any way, it'll have no effect on policy.
Instead by criticizing Bush failures in Iraq without criticizing the mission gives us the ability to lay the blame of withdrawing onto the Bush administration.

13. Anything we say or do with respect to any issue gives the GOP... |
|
an opportunity to promote their spin and mendacious talking points. So why not take our tail out from between our legs and start promoting a liberal agenda? The conservatives didn't take the nation by having Reaganites "triangulate" back in the 80's.

10. The answer is Yes AND No. The citizens should. The Leaders |
|
should not or go easy in their words. The Leaders should NOT say that we should stay - they should say that they will work with the administration for the best speedy solution.
The followers of Bush should be pushed to demand it. It should come from their own.
The problem is outright slaughter within Iraq. No one knows if the slaughter going on now is better or worse than what would come.
The entire point is that we should not have gone.
PNAC and boys thought it would be a slam dunk, better known as a Shock and Awe strike and overtake them with submissive and thankful people pouring out of their homes to hug the Americans and their coalition partners.
Those who made the mistake and the Leaders who authorized the mistake should figure out the solution - WITHOUT considering HALLIBURTON AND ALL THOSE PEOPE WHO ARE GETTING RICH. The only consideration should be our youth and their families and the enormous debt from their deaths and dismemberments (and immune system attacks and lost minds). This is all about the deaths, dismemberments, ruined, and devastated families that are in the spot they're in because of and on behalf of certain corporations and their stockholders.
It is a mess. The citizens need to take the lead because some of our Leaders have really messed up and don't seem to make wise decisions.

12. Of course! What the hell are we there for anyway? |
|
Why should our soldiers be dying to commit horrible war crimes, unjust slaughter of innocent civilians and torture of POWs? For why? There was never any reason for this war other than Sacred Halliburton Profits, which they are already in possession of. Iraq is 50% children. We ran over there and killed up-wards of 100,000 of them for no reason, no fault of their own; we gained a trillion dollar deficit and lost nearly 2000 of our own troops doing it. Of the many US soldiers who didn't die, many are maimed, others permanently crazed, and all for no reason at all. Why should we stay another moment? To accomplish what? We should bring all our troops home this minute, and let them start guarding the polls during elections, disenfranchised voters trying to fight their way into polls, and the vote counters, because, that is where the real crimes against America have been taking place. Our troops should never be used for war profiteering.
