Proof that the RNC knows that voter manipulation is SOP
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050811/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_voter_suppression;_ylt=Asiv6BJ

They paid the legal bill for one their boys who used the phone
to suppress the vote in New Hampshire. They also hacked phones
in Ohio in 04 too. I heard it it first hand.

$700,000.00 for Tobin
$600,000.00 from bush cheney 04 to Sproul and associates

the dead horse in the basement is starting to stink

9. How can the media not be reporting a four felony count indictment
in federal court against Bush's Campaign Chairman for New England in 2004? This is starting to worry me. If Rove gets indicted, will THAT be ignored as well by our guardians of the people's right to know?

11. Whoa................and Woo Hoo (I think)
Seems the perps MUST have known the phone records could be traced back --that seems so obvious that I have to suspect that they were just banking on not being prosecuted.

My guess is they were SO arrogant They. Didnt. Care. Because they knew the election would be over and there would be little will to prosecute and they probably thought they would not come up on felony charges. AND they knew there were deep pockets to help bail them out. Obviously they miscalculated. Advances the argument for widespread corruption in the election system.

If it's AP this story is certainly out in the mainstream. I guess it's national news now since the case has moved forward from last December. Was it out in state news earlier? Any legal heads out there for more analysis on the repercussions?

12. As an American Leftist, I am astonished by other Americans' surprise...
at the corruption of our elections and the complicity of our media. All that is different about the Bush Era is how blatant the corruption and complicity have become: terrifying proof der Bushler and his GOPorkers no longer care if they are exposed, because they know that whatever happens, the fix is already in.

13. right that's how I see it
as Botany says "Standard Operating Procedure" ...just elections as usual in the Banana Republic Of America. The fix is in....

And most Americans have NO IDEA how bad it is (although some may be just now getting an inkling...) I honestly had no real concept of it either until I worked for a local campaign and actually saw the most amazing array of Republican dirty tricks you can imagine (there were no reported Dem crimes). And then I saw the denial, and the platitudes about how nothing can be done about it, from party and election officials both. And then there was the "servile" media--ALWAYS SILENT on this, and never more so than in the media blackout post-election 2004.

There is a lot of resistance to believing that our system could be so corrupt--I mean the vote is basic--the People's Voice. The idea that it is widely manipulated overwhelms people. But maybe with more stories like this they will START to get the picture.

RELATED: Great article in Harper's Aug 05 "None Dare Call it Stolen" by Mark Crispin Miller--just posted by helderheid in GD--here's the link:

20. The full article will be on-line within two weeks. But buy the mag anyway.
Harper's waits a month before posting articles from their print editions. But they are definitely worth supporting by buying hard-copy and subscribing. (<$15/year -- cheap.)
