MSM Refuses To Mention Cindy's Name:
Bush: Leaving Iraq Would Be a Bad Signal By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer
37 minutes ago
Noticed this on a couple of news sites. Do you notice how it reads? "like the mother camped outside his Texas ranch....."

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush said Thursday he sympathizes with war protesters like the mother camped outside his Texas ranch demanding answers for her solider-son's death, but he said he believes it would be a mistake to bring U.S. troops home now.

Bush said he had "heard the voices of those saying, `Pull out now.'" And he said, "I've thought about their cry and their sincere desire to reduce the loss of life by pulling our troops out. I just strongly disagree."

"Pulling the troops out would send a terrible signal to the enemy," the president told reporters between meetings with his military and foreign affairs advisers.

Outside his sprawling ranch, California mother Cindy Sheehan sat on the road with a growing group of war protesters who have pitched tents in shallow ditches. Sheehan's son, Casey, was killed five days after he arrived in Iraq last year at age 24.

Sheehan began her standoff on Saturday, declaring she would stay for the entire month that Bush plans to stay in Texas if he won't meet with her. Since then, dozens of other activists have traveled from across the country to join her, including at least three other parents who have lost children in the war.

"The president says he feels compassion for me, but the best way to show that compassion is by meeting with me and the other mothers and families who are here," Sheehan said. "All we're asking is that he sacrifice an hour out of his five-week vacation to talk to us, before the next mother loses her son in Iraq."

3. Sheehan is a natural...
"All we're asking is that he sacrifice an hour out of his five-week vacation to talk to us, before the next mother loses her son in Iraq."

Talk about sticking it to him. Lets see, there's the "five week vacation", "next mother loses her son", what he doesn't have time to "sacrifice an hour" while other's sacrifice their lives.

There are some people you just don't argue with, no matter how powerful or smart or whatever you are. You just can't win. This reminds me of the character from Ragtime (played by Howard Rollins) who wanted a refund or something. Give him the damn money already. Give her the meeting Bush. She will win, you will lose, and, if you do, you'll look like the turkey you are.

Thank you Cindy Sheehan, for speaking truth to power!

4. Her name was not important enough to put in the lead.
Reporters don't put the names of private citizens in a lead, normally. Because they would not be recognized by the average Joe, and space is precious.

Believe it or not, Cindy Sheehan is not enough of a celebrity yet that everyone knows her name. Her identity as a mother who lost a son in Iraq is more important than her name--which eventually did get mentioned in the story.

7. No problem with me on that. They can't stop her. She will win.
They're fools. As the artillery commander said in "Gladiator","Don't these people know when they're defeated." Apparently not so go for it White House. If a Clear Channel party of drunks taunting Cindy and hunger strikers was your best shot, God help the United States of America.

8. Yeah, you are right. Just pointing out a fact. Cindy was talking
about it on Bill Press's show this morning & how NBC is owned by GE who is making so much money off of the war.

It is easy to see also how this goes with even those on this board that just accept it & no problem. But like you said, right will win eventually.

10. Well, MSNBC, part of GE, gave Cindy a forum on Countdown tonight
and they were even talking up a storm about her on Hardball (David Gregory was on again).

So I guess the "evil media conspiracy against her" is a bit overdrawn by some.

If GE is making so much money off the war that they won't let any of their media people near her story, why did Keith Olbermann lead with her tonight for 10 minutes and for most of that time let her talk?

Sheesh, just because reporters don't mention her name in the first paragraph of a story and expect everyone to recognize it? By next week, they probably will. Be patient. I honestly do not believe anyone who writes about her and doesn't put her name in the lead is trying to slight her in any way.

Her name doesn't matter nearly as much as what she stands for. It could be Cindy Sheehan, Mary Jones or Johanna Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt. Doesn't matter. It's what she's doing that counts intially. Only after people have gotten to know her name will it be important to identify her that way.
