A Mother's Request for the President
Cindy Sheehan, mother of a Soldier killed in Iraq, has been holding vigil outside President Bush's vacation home in Texas, waiting for a chance to talk to the Commander in Chief.

Those lyrics were from a very popular song that mothers were singing before the United States entered World War I. A fact of war is that war causes death. And death causes grief, and mothers feel the pain of outliving their children. The military knows this. During World War II, the Army sent a telegram. The Navy and Marine Corps sent an officer and a chaplain to the families home. Now all the branches send a casualty assistance officer and a chaplain.
