Kennedy & Kerry Pressure Bush To Meet Cindy
The momentum is building on George Bush to stop hiding from this courageous woman, and meet with Cindy Sheehan. Senator Allen encouraged it almost immediately, several members of the House quickly followed up with a letter to the President.

Today, The Boston Herald reports that “Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday each threw their support behind Cindy Sheehan, who has been camped outside Bush's Crawford, Texas, home since Saturday, vowing not to leave until the president meets with her about the war. Sheehan's 24-year-old Marine son, Casey, was killed five days after he arrived in Iraq.

``The president has not leveled with our troops and the American people,'' Kennedy said. ``I admire Cindy Sheehan for her courage and determination to make the president answer to her.''

Kerry spokeswoman April Boyd said: ``Senator Kerry understands the demands on Bush's schedule but hopes he will take time to meet with Mrs. Sheehan.''

Maybe if Bush does decide to change course and meet with Cindy, he’ll finally have a mistake he can admit at his next press conference.

1. Well now is this not rich!

I'm sorry everyone, I've not a lot of respect for Kerry.

First he sat in front of some panel and said as a Viet Vet how do you ask the last soldier to die or some such.

Next many years later he was a key player in the Iran/Contra hearings.

And the he promised us all every vote would be counted.

Are you sick of it yet? I know we are. We call Bull SHIT!

Kennedy maybe, Kerry never.

and then there are the Bolanos Brothers, but that is just one more sad story.

2. regardless of his ulterior motives, it's still very helpful to the cause
No matter Kerry's own merits, this is excellent for the movement overall. Kennedy is also an excellent figure of moral authority, and I'm quite glad to see his participation at last.

3. I have to agree on the Kerry statement.
Its nice the senate is paying some attention, but alot of them seem to have alterior motives. If only this senate was truly elected by the people and not some mistakes it would be much better off, not all the corruption.

I question why Senator Reid isn't working on this though, he seems one of the least corrupted.

4. Just stunning
If he says nothing, he gets attacked. Already has been in fact. He supports her, and he gets attacked. Never mind the fact that Cindy herself has said that the Congressional resolutions that people around here drool over don't go far enough. Or that Hackett doesn't support pulling out of Iraq either, but is also drooled over by the anti-war crowd. Does EVERYTHING from the far left have to end up with mud slinging? Even when everybody else supports your efforts, putting aside their own personal feelings on the various issues?

And what the hell did he do to the Bolanos Brothers?

6. He ignored them when they were doing there damned best to help him.
I spent several weeks on their tour.

Talk to Guy James about it.

I'm not slinging mud, it is all out there and true. Hey Kerry where are you really?

Thanks sandnsea.

You are always a ?

17. It really is sad
Oy. Why nobody attacking Kennedy? :eyes: It's good Kerry and Kennedy have spoken out in support of Cindy. Kerry was more involved in the anti-war movement then just speaking infront of the Senate. You should see "Going UpRiver" and "Winter Solider" when it comes out and "Unfinished Symphony". The last film comes on the Sundance Channel again either the twenty-fourth or the twenty-sixth.

9. Could you explain what you are saying
From the context in which you've phrased things, you list 4 events where you don't approve of Kerry:

- His testamony in 1971 for which most McGovern Democrats to Clinton Democrats typically praise him

- Being a leading player in the Iran/Contra hearings - tricky as he wasn't, as a junior 1st term Senator he was pushed not included in the hearings even though it was his work investigating the contras possibly bringing drugs into the US that provided an essential piece of information. Lugar gave him permission and a staff to investigate it only after Kerry found an unlikely ally in Jesse Helmes, who was adamantly anti-drugs but pro-contras.

- promising every vote would count - The Democratic party has failed for generations to insure fair elections. Kerry in 2003, 2004 was doing exactly what every other candidate was doing. Developing a platform to run on, creating stump speeches and talking to (and listening to) people all over the country. Did any other 04 primary candidate initiate the type of non-partisan grassroots effort to reform how voting is done at a state or local level? This is a very fundamental problem that Democrats need to address. Kerry is no more quilty than any other Democrat. He, like Gore, was the victim.

- I have no idea who the Bolanos brothers are.

11. Actually, I think your points are BS!
You say it all in your first comment.Standing up for what he believes and expressing his opinion makes him insincere?

5. Oddly enough
Full-bore winger George Allen also told Bush Sunday he should meet her, that it was a "matter of courtesy and decency." Maybe just this once, Dubya's met an untouchable, unsmearable opponent in Cindy Sheehan.

7. Time for a distraction.
He's gotta get something else in the news to knock Cindy off the front page. Otherwise, as has already been pointed out, here, Bush is in a lose-lose situation.

Watch out for a new dose of "terror" to fix this by providing a convenient distraction.

12. same thing I was thinking
Dems who voted for this war step up. Explain yourself to a mom who lost a child. It's the proper thing to do. Bush won't do it because proper never enters his lightweight mind.

16. I love this quote...
Why do the right wing media so assiduously scrutinize the words of a grief filled mother and ignore the words of a lying president? Cindy Sheehan 8/9/05

Excellent!
