Found Out that God IS on Our Side & Is a Democrat............spooky
Hang with me a minute 'cause this was wierd - people even asked me if the Dems have some direct link to God!!

Grandson was baptized Sunday. Three things happened in a row. First the Gospel was "those who are NOT against us are with us"........ummm, familiar??---well, Bush turned that Jesus phrase into "either with us or against us". He took a phrase of promise and turned it into a phrase of threatening and it looks like it was also a little "wink, wink" message to his religious right wing (so that's where it came from). But things get better:

There was a reading from James (got to put it here 'cause doesn't it just ring the bell). .."you rich, weep and bow for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eathen. Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure for the last days. Behold the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned, you have killed the righteous man....". Sound like any people we know??? It gets better...

The priest gives the sermon. It's about how elected offials go to Washington to represent us but that they are set upon by dishonest media who twist what they have to say to meet "their puny world view and the puny world view of their corporate bosses" and thus, they so intimidate our repesentatives that it's no longer possible for them to represent the people. (At this point, I started to look up at that cross and say "Yo, ya' talkin' to me??--hubby leans over and says "I go to church and get double timed by you and now God!).

And then the prayers at the end are for the migrant workers that they be given good wages, good housing, etc.............I leaned over and kissed the little wet head of my grandson and said to myself, "yes, today, indeed, a little Democrat was born"!!!! Family afterward, knowing that I'm always preaching the Dem doctrine, commented that that was downright spooky!!!!!!! Well, at least now they know that I'm right and that God is a Democrat! Yeah, God!!!!!!!

2. A Little Democrat is Born?
That seems a little premature considering he's what, a few weeks old? What would you do if he grows up to be a conservative Republican? That may seem unlikely coming from such a liberal Democratic background, but that's no guarantee the kid will share the views of the people he grew up with.

4. Not spooky, though
It's just good theology.

I thought the same thing Sunday. The readings were all very appropriate for the times that we are living in, and our priest also preached a fantastic sermon. Good catch with the Bush quote.

Religion, especially Christianity, gets bad treatment around here at times, and I blame the fundies for this, because they are the ones who have so warped the way in which Christians are viewed by everybody else. These things just help me to remember that the fundamentalists shouldn't be allowed to speak for all of us. It gives me hope to hear that others feel the same way.

...prize for "Match of the Day!"

Of course God is a Democrat!

Remember "It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven"? Well, the rich folks have been working on making larger needles and smaller camels ever since!

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. - Dwight D. Eisenhower, April 16, 1953

"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me."

To which the listeners respond, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison and visit you?"

"Amen, I say to you whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me."

7. He said "corporate bosses" and then went on to explain
how their "puny world view", as he kept calling it, needed to have papers sold, commentary run, etc. that supported that view and the reporters carried out their biding to further the "puny view". He then went on to tell people not to fall for it. I'm a Lutheran. Usually priests kinda drone on and don't say much; but this was a young priest----in fact, announcement at the end was for a seminar he was holding regarding "sexual abuse in the Catholic Church". We had half Lutherans there and half Catholics. The Lutherans were impressed and the Catholics listened for a change (hubby, the Catholic, usually doses). I so wanted to jump up and yell "you tell 'em, baby"!!!!!!!!!
