Senators Kennedy & Kerry push * to meet with Cindy

Bush pressed to meet protester mom
By Dave Wedge
Friday, August 12, 2005

Pressure continued to mount for President Bush to meet with the distraught mom of a soldier killed in Iraq as both Bay State senators backed the woman and scores of families joined her outside Bush's Texas home, including two from Massachusetts. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday each threw their support behind Cindy Sheehan, who has been camped outside Bush's Crawford, Texas, home since Saturday, vowing not to leave until the president meets with her about the war. Sheehan's 24-year-old Marine son, Casey, was killed five days after he arrived in Iraq. ``The president has not leveled with our troops and the American people,'' Kennedy said. ``I admire Cindy Sheehan for her courage and determination to make the president answer to her.'' Kerry spokeswoman April Boyd said: ``Senator Kerry understands the demands on Bush's schedule but hopes he will take time to meet with Mrs. Sheehan.''

Speaking with reporters at his ranch yesterday, Bush expressed sympathy but made no concessions. White House aides met with Sheehan, which she described as ``pointless.'' ``She feels strongly about her position. And she has every right in the world to say what she believes,'' Bush said. But, he said, pulling out of Iraq now would be a ``mistake.'' ``One way to honor the fallen is to lay the foundation for peace,'' he said.

Sheehan was joined by soldiers' families who oppose the war, including a Hyannis mom whose son is being deployed next week and the wife and daughters of a Massachusetts National Guard sergeant from Billerica who is in Iraq. Rose Gonzalez, whose mother is serving north of Baghdad with the National Guard, called Sheehan ``inspiring.'' ``It's not too much to ask a president sending all these people into harm's way, to ask for time to speak with him,'' said Gonzalez, who will speak at a vigil on Boston Common tomorrow night to honor Sheehan. ``She lost a 24-year-old son. He was just a baby.''

Boston Mobilization organized the vigil to raise awareness and help military families who want to join Sheehan. Spokeswoman Eve Lyman said Bush should give her the courtesy of a meeting. "I can't believe Bush has been so stupid to not come out and talk to her yet and diffuse the whole thing,'' Lyman said.

1. Nice of them....
...but it be even nicer if maybe they could get themselves down to Crawford and exchange a few words with the woman and the supporters. Just to further rile the Bush Worshippers.

10. No, I don't want them to "Frist" the event
This is good. This is better, actually. I don't want what Cindy is doing to be muddied into a political circus.

I'm glad they spoke up though.

14. That'd take away from Cindy's message - the media would spin it into
something completely unrecognizable.

Frist and Santorum were spun into sincere saints by the corporate media.

Kerry and Kennedy would be desperate Democrats trying to get a jump on Hillary Clinton for 2008.

Sad that we know exactly what we can expect from the whores.

Cindy's doing great right now...let's stay on track with her cause.

15. This time they really do need to stay low key- but I'm glad they spoke up.
I'm glad they have an opinion- we at least need to hear that.

Cindy is getting plenty of attention w/o "Star DEMs"

However, in the Herald's case, just slightly less biased than Moonie Times.

7. Actually, it's agood thing......
To see them lend their names in support of Ms. Sheehan. But, I don't want the Idiot in Chief swayed by anyone into meeting with her.

I want to see how big this movement gets when she follows the Idiot in Chief back to DC.

11. Yeah, and maybe she can ask Kerry why he voted for the war.
Kerry's almost as culpable as Bush. The hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me.

12. Just Kerry? Not the rest of the folks who voted for it? Reid?
Our Minority Leader? Oh, that's right. People like him. So he doesn't count.

No, Kerry didn't lie to Congress. Kerry's not profiteering off this venture. Making such a claim diminishes what Bush and his gang have done. Those who voted based on crap information given to them by liars are not in the same boat as Bush.

Bush gets to sit in that boat with the rest of his neocon pals. Not with Kerry, or Edwards, or Reid, or any of the rest. Let him look at Rummy's ugly mug as he rows himself to hell.

16. Really? You mean the IWR was to blame and not Bush's failure to implement
the IWR honestly?

And here I thought Bush lied his way around the IWR guidelines for weapons inspections and that he alone would make the determination AFTER the inspections that war was NECESSARY for national security in a letter presented to Congress.

Gee...in that case, Bush is honest and hasn't done anything to be impeached, either. It was all the fault of the IWR.

17. I disagree with Kerry's vote- but I dont see it that way.
Kerry did not lie to the Congress, UN and American people.

Kerry did not forge documents.

Kerry did not out CIA agents.

Kerry did not manipulate the media into "selling" this war.

Kerry should have voted "no"- I agree with that-

But "almost as cupable as Bush?" Not by a long shot.

Hypocrisy? How? When has Kerry refused to speak to vets or their relatives? When has Kerry put down dissenters?

21. Your post makes clear - Kerry and Kennedy understand accountability
and show it in ways that Bush will NEVER emulate....... unless he can wring some political gain out of it from the media who worships his every move.
