Cindy Picture on Newsday - See picture below |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 12:30 PM by leftylady
It is just the saddest picture. I just went out on the AP Wire and it was a sidebar that had the new cover.
That poor woman.
And isn't it amazing the effect she is having on people everywhere - just her raw pain is doing what all the shouting in the world has not been able to do.

5. I don't know how to put up a link. |

I'm sorry. But it is just a close-up of her face, sun-burned and so weary and so anguished.
You know, Bush grieves for every soldier that dies over there. God, what utter bullshit. And what utter arrogance!
And how amazing that one woman could do this.

9. How can anyone see that |
|
and fail to be moved? Unless they're a heartless idiot with no empathy or compassion whatsoever...
Yeah, I know. We're talking about *. But I hope there's something there--I'd hate to think she's out there and it's not going to have any effect at all.

10. Hey, we are stalking Karl Rove and Cheney here. |
|
And Bush has no idea what compassion is all about. I don't think he has a clue about this or why it is so moving.

11. "That poor woman"! think about it: she is NOT to be pitied |
|
she is braver than any one of us posting from our computers at home or at work or on vacation, myself certainly included.
she "cooked" her "raw pain" into direct civil disobedience! she is not seeking sympathy from outside her strong circle of family and friends; i wonder if she ever did.
was martin luther king a "poor man" lost in pain?
was gandhi a "poor man"?
nope. neither was peg mullen.
ms. sheehan has risen above emotion, as all genuine human beings are able to do, if they choose, and has used her emotional truths to reveal political truths.
do not "feel her pain." she has already tended to that. take her seriously, as one who has made the personal political, unless you disapprove of that higher, very difficult (and so brave) human pursuit.

14. yes, of course. and this woman has much more to say than |
|
i am in pain, i am a poor woman.
another way to read her face:
i will be heard.
i don't at all question your heart or ability to empathize, but perhaps we are choosing to see her pain and grief to somehow speak to our own pain and grief issues
i being this up b/c every MSM report on sheehan so far, makes great notice of her grief
"i am so sorry for your loss," says monica crowley before accusing cindy of conspiring w/ moveon, MM, etc.
we all are cautious with people in grief, but in politics and media, emotional states are used against women speaking truth to power.
are we witnesses to her grief or do we stand with her, however we stand throughout the world, without reminding her of the pain? she seems oriented to action beyond emotional expression.
peace and love

15. That is one thing that all women have in common |
|
Women from any culture, any religion understand the pain. And they also understand the strength of women.
But it takes a lot of guts for this woman to let the whole world see her raw pain. Most women don't do that.
It is interesting that she is kind of a "raw" woman. Tall and thin and not particularly attractive by "model or hollywood" standards. But she is just so "every woman" that it is amazing.
