I Just Watched O'Reilly For the First Time. This Man is Seriously DUMB!
I assumed from the level of antipathy that he generates that he would be a rabid right wing ideologue or uber nasty or a pompous a-hole who puts down his guests to puff up his own importance or all three. But after watching my very first O'Reilly interviews Citizen X on Fox News Video I am left with the inescapable conclusion that the man is a moron who "speaks well" so he got a job as a right wing mouthpiece, and he does as he is told, because this is the only way that he will ever be a celebrity journalist, nature having failed to endow him with any true intellectual ability.

Of course, this is all based upon one viewing of one interview. Does anyone else have any different opinions? Should I watch another interview? Are there unsuspected depths to his personality?

Though he looks and sounds like a college professor, the content reeked of "dumb blonde." NO offense intended towards blondes. I am one myself, of the natural variety.

1. Well... he doesn't know a falafel from a loofa --
-- so no argument about his intellectual capacity here!

12. Actually he uses his "Irish Catholic" excuse
to explain his temper. Most ICs I know are pretty level headed (outside the sauce.)

Then again using one's (sub)cultural background as an excuse for acting like an ass opens the door to propogating steriotypes in others.

walking around Levittown in his bathrobe yelling at trees.

7. I truely hate him more than any other famous man alive
sorry rapists and murderers, I hate you too, but O'Reilly has done just so much to upset me and spur my hatred that I cannot put anyone else above him. I will rejoice when he is dead someday. Pancreatic Cancer please go to someone who deserves it for a chance real soon.

19. LOL
I had to laugh when I read your post.

My mommy told me not to say anything bad about anybody, but Bill O'Really is outside the realm of "body's".

8. Maybe, but
I just thought he was a total asshole.

The way he bullies the guests like that, not letting them get a word in at all. Makes me glad I don't get cable TV anymore.

11. "He looks and sounds like a college professor"
I teach college. If, in fact, you are correct, I am going to shoot myself in the head. I would have said "He looks and sounds like crazy Uncle Fred, from whom, when he shows up, you immediately hide the gin."

As to your question. The only depths are the depths of his utter inanity. I must admit to a fairly unhealthy habit of periodically viewing Bill O'Reilly. In my defense, however, I would like to add that he graduated from the college where I currently teach and my cousin ( and a number of high school friends) went to college with him.

14. It is truly shocking to tune in to any of the mainstream media nuts
I tuned in once a few months ago and it was one raving lunatic after another making no sense whatsoever. How do people accept this as news???

15. The freepers don't like smart anchors
it scares them. They want their kool-aid served up by those whose intellectual abilities are in no way a threat to their own very limited intellect.

For some reason this blow-hard fake machismo appeals to some people.

I makes me queasy.

18. He leaves himself open to snappy one liner comebacks.

His only tactic is the "interupt and drone on like a pompous windbag" and that doesnt work when you have just knocked him over with a serious right hook. The mother of the slain Iraq GI whom he was attempting to exploit was doing a pretty good job of standing up to him, but she missed several opportunities---opportunities which Cindy Sheehan would have seen and jumped upon. Like when he asked whom she would choose, Micheal Moore or Bush. She could have said "I think for myself. How about you?" Would have blown him away.

I am reminded of the transcript of the time he called Krugman a "quasi-socialist" and Krugman called him a "quasi-murderer." I suspect that his handlers pick left wing or hostile guests who not going to be fast talkers. No John Stewarts allowed.
