She is well educated and intelligent, but buys this "pottery barn" analogy of gluing together all the little pieces. I was too polite to vigorously argue the point with her. She has a good heart and she doesn't like Bush. I feel bad for the men and women yet to die in that horrible venture designed to enrich Bush's buddies and make the neocons happy. :argh:

1. Is she old enough to enlist or is she willing to send her kids to fight?
Seriously I know how you feel. I have lost more friends due to the Crawford Coward than I can count.

3. She's in her 60's and I doubt she'd send her kids
I love her but argh on this. I cannot fathom sending someone else's kids to die needlessly.

4. Man thats a tough one.
I lost a good friend Kevin do to the Iraq war. He's the sweetest nicest guy in the world. But as soon as you mention politics he starts channeling rush and coulter. I just told him either dont talk politics anymore or we wont hang. He decided not to come over.

5. but you can't "glue those pieces together" really... hit her with logic.
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 02:33 AM by KyndCulture
I know exactly what you are saying, and the kind of people who say it... how can they put those pieces together... it doesn't make sense.

9/11 was awful, it shattered this country.... but it wasn't the Iraqi people who did that... those beautiful babies in Iraq didn't fly those planes, those women who enjoyed equality for 46 years in their country didn't hurt ANY Americans....yet we bomb them daily and destroy their families and our soldiers are dying. The war is a lie. Educate people on the Iraqi way of life... we are the aggressor. That is what people have to understand.

How do we even begin to get this message out.

7. "... and the kind of people who say it ..."
I saw Clinton on TV the other day, saying we can't just walk away, that what's been done can't be undone, and it's our responsibilty to clean up the mess we made.

I was reading William Rivers Pitt tonight and found he had the same basic idea.

I'm not up to a flame war this time of night. I'm just giving 2 examples of the kind of people who say this. :)

8. That presumes that the answer is a simple 'stay or go'

and that the level and type of involvement is self-defining.

And that both are not self-defeating.

And the trouble with following that philosophy is that it gives the neocons and their tool President the delusion that they were right and that they can continue to follow such a path.

10. you got that right.
In fact, I can't think of one senator or talk show host who's in favor of us just getting out. I am, by the way. It's just a fucked-up situation that isn't really going to get any worse by us leaving.

14. Have you read the opinions of those who feel ...
it could get far worse if we just walked away? It's something to consider. Not all of it's about economic gain, but global stability.

Oil economy is world economy. A major disruption in supply could literally shut whole industries down.

6. "pottery barn" analogy:
Did she miss age 3 when most kids learn Humpty Dumpty? All our horses and all of our men can't put Humpty together again.
