i went to Crawford today
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 11:15 PM by movie_girl99
It was so amazing. We went to the peace rally and heard people speak who have lost someone in this pitiful excuse for a war. It was hotter than hell and the ants were biting but it didn't seem to matter. People were so happy to be there for this event. We then caravaned to the camp sight where Cindy and the others were. She was so incredibly inspiring and said that she will follow George to make sure that he never has a peaceful vacation again. It ended with everyone singing God Bless America and We SHall Overcome. I was overcome with tears to see so many people come out to honor Cindy and the others who are there with her. As we walked back down the long hot road there were a handful of people (12-15) protesting our gathering. It was quite comical really but also pathetic. I thought to myself..If this is Bush country where the hell is everyone? As we continued down the long hot road there was a truck that drove by with the message "Yankee's go home" and it made me laugh because probably 70% of the cars I saw had Texas license plates. This day will stick in my mind and also keep me inspired to pass Cindy's message on.

3. I saw the "Yankee go home!" truck and laughed, since Bush is the Yankee
And most of the people there were Texans.

8. not at all..total opposite
there was a helicopter that kept flying over and i was so wishing that it would have been media but i think it was the Sheriff dept. I so wanted them to take an aerial shot of the huge caravan that drove to Camp Casey and see it featured on the news. It was a silly wish but it would've been great.

12. Amazing how they inflate supporters and yet never seem to even come close
on the protest side.. The MILLIONS of people in the streets before the war were cast as "hundreds"..then revised to thousands..but that's about as high as it ever got:(

16. I do have to say this...
People on both sides inflate the numbers to suit their needs. Some out of sheer excitement, some out of manipulation and malice.

17. I can understand why each side inflates the numbers, BUT
it's up to the media to report who's actualy there.. They DO have cameras, and the photos they take are very telling.. When the crowd is large and the support that side, they show wide , sweeping panoramic pictures, but when it's a group they do not support editorially, they tend to show close ups of smaller groups within the larger group.

We have people on the ground actually taking pictures..a lot of them..

18. Im just saying..

My opinions on numbers of protestors and antiprotestors do not match the numbers posted by others here at DU even though I was there, at the same locations and in support of the protestors (of course).

Im not agreeing with the media, Im just saying I saw atleast 50-75 counter protestors at the rally and another 25 at the rally, along the road to the rally and in town at the parking area near the peace house as well as in front of the yellow rose..

I hear that there were others at various locations.. plus I saw alot- probably 20 people on motorcycles that I was thinking were probably supporting Bush, but they had no signs. There were also alot of drive by- ers.. the ones that were too chicken to get out of there car.. Id say a good 10 cars of them.

Given what I saw, yes 300 is a bit inflated, 200? Not so much.. if I take all of that into account. Is that twisting the truth? Id have to see the context.. it probably is.. but it isnt wildly exaggerated and dramatic.

14. no and a big hell no
i was there all day and never saw more than the handful at Camp Casey. There were some near the Peace Rally but again, the number were pathetically small in comparison to ours.
